Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Illusion
Everyone instinctively looked down at the magic formation, confusion visible on their faces. Some took a cautious step back, while others simply stared at the glowing formation, trying to identify it.
Asher also lowered his gaze.
Unlike the others, he immediately recognized what it was.
A teleportation formation.
He had never studied Formation Arts. As a spatial mage, there had never been much reason to. Even so, he could still sense what the formation was meant to do.
He silently looked around the room. The formation covered almost the entire floor. There was no easy way to step outside its range.
A thought crossed his mind.
Now I am sure I got myself into some serious shit.
Even then, his expression didn’t change. He simply stood there silently, waiting to see what would happen next.
Everyone suddenly felt the space around them distort.
The next moment, all twenty-two Master-rank healers found themselves standing inside a large white room. The walls, the floor, and even the ceiling were completely white. There were no windows.
There was only a single door at the front of the room, in front of which Grandmaster Steve was standing calmly.
Everyone looked around with uneasy and confused expressions. The room felt more like a prison than a meeting hall.
Quiet murmurs soon spread throughout the room as everyone tried to understand what had just happened.
Asher also looked around the room. He tried to sense what was outside, but he couldn’t feel anything beyond the walls. It was as if the entire room had been completely isolated from the outside world.
The feeling was familiar.
It was exactly like when he had entered the Reaper Guild.
Asher then thought ’Now I’m sure... I’ve gotten myself into some serious shit again.’
Asher’s expression didn’t change. He simply continued observing his surroundings in silence.
The woman then looked at Steve and said in a slightly raised tone,
"What is the meaning of this?"
"Why did you bring us here?"
"Where are we?"
"And what exactly is this ’special task’ you were talking about?"
Several other Master-rank healers also looked toward Steve. They, too, were about to ask their own questions.
But before anyone could say another word—
Steve suddenly disappeared.
No one present was able to follow his movement with their eyes.
One moment, he was standing in front of the door.
The next moment, he was already standing in front of the woman.
The woman’s pupils shrank.
Before she could even react, Steve calmly placed his hand on her head.
In the next instant, a brilliant light erupted from his palm. The woman’s entire body was engulfed by the light.
There wasn’t even enough time for her to scream.
A moment later, the light disappeared.
The woman was gone.
Only a small pile of ash remained where she had been standing.
Silence fell over the room.
Everyone stared at the pile of ash with expressions of disbelief.
Not a single person spoke.
Steve looked at the pile of ash for a moment before muttering in a slightly annoyed tone,
"What an annoying bitch."
"She couldn’t even keep her mouth shut."
Then Steve looked at everyone present.
The gentle smile was still on his face.
However, after what he had just done to the woman, that gentle expression no longer felt reassuring. Instead, it felt creepy.
Everyone remained completely silent.
Steve’s gaze slowly swept across the room before he asked in the same gentle tone,
"Does anyone have any more questions now?"
Not a single person replied.
Everyone simply stood where they were, not daring to speak. Some lowered their heads, while others kept staring at Steve with fearful expressions.
Asher also remained silent.
He simply looked at Steve, his expression unchanged.
After seeing what had just happened, he knew there was no point in asking anything.
Steve looked at everyone present before saying in a gentle tone,
"Follow me."
After saying that, he turned around and started walking toward the door.
The door slowly opened.
Without stopping, Steve walked through it.
Everyone silently followed behind him.
After what had just happened, no one dared to ask any questions.
After walking for some time, they finally reached another large room. Just like the previous one, it was completely empty. Steve walked inside first, and everyone silently followed behind him.
However, the moment Asher stepped into the room, his surroundings suddenly changed. The white room disappeared, and Asher immediately realized that it was an illusion.
He now found himself standing in the middle of a vast field covered with corpses. Human corpses and the bodies of strange beasts he had never seen before were scattered everywhere. Some bodies had been torn apart, some had their limbs scattered across the ground, while others were covered in deep wounds. Blood stained the ground beneath them.
Men, women, and even children lay among the dead. The entire place looked less like a battlefield and more like the aftermath of a massacre.
However, the illusion didn’t end there.
The scene kept changing.
One moment, Asher was standing in the middle of a field covered with corpses. The next moment, he found himself somewhere else. Every new scene was even more disgusting than the last. Human corpses and the bodies of strange beasts were scattered everywhere. Some were torn apart, some had their organs spilling out, while others had been reduced to nothing more than mangled remains.
The scenes kept changing one after another.
Eventually, after several minutes, the illusion finally came to an end.
The next moment, the white room appeared before Asher’s eyes once again.
Asher looked around his surroundings.
Some of the Master-rank healers had already fallen to their knees and were vomiting. Others were covering their mouths, trying their best not to vomit. A few remained standing with relatively calm expressions, but even they looked disturbed by what they had just seen.
Asher silently observed everyone before thinking,’Everyone probably saw the same thing.’
Then Asher suddenly heard a voice.
"You’re handling it better than the others."
