Chapter 150: Chapter 150: Farewell.
Kai and Ren left the room, leaving the adventurers and Lucifer inside.
Once outside, Ren looked at the door and muttered, "This one’s weird, not crazy. So, should we move on to the next one?"
Kai thought for a moment, then shook his head. "I’m tired of wandering around. Let’s just take him. It doesn’t matter now—he’s at least weird, if not crazy, and there’s no way we’re going to find an actual crazy healer anyway."
Ren nodded and said, "But what if he doesn’t agree to come with us?"
Kai replied immediately, "He will. He’ll have to, as soon as we tell him it’s an order from Grand Cardinal Solarius."
"Let’s just wait for now."
The two of them turned to leave and find somewhere to wait, but then, suddenly, they heard the sound of the door opening.
They turned back to see Lucifer stepping outside, followed by the adventurers—the man’s arm still fully attached.
Both of them froze, confused. Barely a minute had passed since they’d left the room. Had he really already regenerated the entire limb, or had he simply not cut it off at all?
Kai asked, "Weren’t you going to cut off his arm and regenerate it?"
Lucifer gave a slightly confused look and said, "I did. I’m just pretty good at healing, so it didn’t take much time."
Ren stared at him. "It’s been a minute."
"And?" Lucifer said, tilting his head as if he didn’t understand the problem.
Kai looked at Lucifer for a moment and then said, in a surprised tone, "I didn’t expect you to be this good."
Lucifer just looked at him and said, "Thank you. But now, will you tell me why you’ve come here?"
Kai looked at Ren, and the two of them nodded to each other. Then Kai said, "We need you to come with us. You’re needed somewhere else, and you can’t refuse. It’s a direct order from Grand Cardinal Solarius, so no matter who you are, as long as you’re part of the Church, you have to comply with it."
Lucifer looked at them and said, in a confused tone, "Who is this Grand Cardinal Solarius, anyway?"
Kai and Ren both stared at him, certain they’d misheard.
"...You don’t know who Grand Cardinal Solarius is?" Ren asked slowly.
Lucifer replied immediately, "If I knew, why would I ask you?"
Then the woman adventurer standing beside Lucifer said in a low tone, "He’s the son of the Pope, and also an Immortal-rank cultivator."
After hearing this, Lucifer said, "I see." Then he looked at Kai and asked, "What is this matter, by the way, for which you need my assistance—a nobody from a small town?"
Kai and Ren exchanged a glance before Kai spoke. "That’s not something you’ll know until you reach the main Church."
"Grand Cardinal Solarius’s orders were specific," Kai added. "The details are only to be disclosed once you arrive at the main Church. We weren’t given the full picture either, if that makes you feel any better."
Lucifer, who was a vessel of Asher, looked at both Kai and Ren and then thought, ’I don’t know if I’m lucky or unlucky. If I go there, I could probably learn some things about the Church, which would be very helpful for me in the future. But there’s also a risk, since I’d be in a place full of Grandmasters and some Immortal-rank cultivators. Even so, I’m sure I wouldn’t be found out unless I do something stupid.’ Asher thought this over for several moments before finally deciding, ’I have to take the risk. I just hope it doesn’t end like it did with the Reaper Guild.’
Then Lucifer said, "I’d be glad to come to the main branch and help with whatever Grand Cardinal Solarius wants me to do."
Kai raised an eyebrow at the sudden shift in tone. "That was quick. A minute ago you looked like you were about to argue us into the ground."
Lucifer just shrugged and said, "I know there is no point fighting something like this, might as well make the best of it."
Ren looked at him a little suspiciously but didn’t say anything.
"Good, glad that’s settled then," Kai said. "We will inform the main Church that you agreed. For now, get your things ready and say farewell to your family, we leave tomorrow morning"
Lucifer nodded and said, "I don’t have a family, I’m alone, so no need for that. Okay, so let’s meet tomorrow. Let me show you your room, where you can stay for tonight."
Kai and Ren just nodded, and then the three of them left.
"So... he’s really leaving," the woman said quietly.
"Yeah," one of the Platinum 1-star men said, rubbing the back of his neck. "Feels weird. Town’s not going to be the same without him around."
The injured man, still flexing his newly healed arm, nodded. "He saved my arm in under a minute. Where else are we going to find a healer like that?"
"Nowhere," the other Platinum 2-star cultivator said with a small laugh. "That’s the point, isn’t it? A Master rank healer, working in a town like this, for free half the time. We were never going to keep him forever."
The woman smiled faintly, though there was a touch of sadness in it. "Main Church, huh. Grandmasters, Immortal-rank cultivators, resources we couldn’t dream of. That’s... that’s a whole different world."
"A world we’ll never get to see," one of the men added, not bitterly, just stating it as fact.
"Still," the woman said, her voice softening, "it’s good for him. He deserves better than treating scraped knees and snake bites in a town most of the continent’s never heard of. If anyone belongs at the main Church, it’s him."
After that, they also left the Church and headed off to collect the corpse of the beast they had killed in the forest.
...
Next day.
Lucifer, the Asher vessel, left for the main branch of the Church with Kai and Ren, while the town came to see Asher off.
Asher just looked at them and thought, ’They’re really weird and stupid, they don’t even know that the man they are thinking I am already died year ago by my hands ’
