Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Lucifer
As soon as the two Master rank members from the other branch of Church entered, everyone looked at them with curiosity as to why they were here, and with respect, since they were Master rank and their seniors.
One of the members of the town’s Church branch, a man with Gold rank cultivation, rushed towards them, and as soon as he reached them, he bowed and asked in a nervous and respectful tone, "Hello sir, I am Aster. May I know why you are here? What brings someone like you to our humble town? What would you like me to do for you?"
One of the Master rank members looked at Aster and said in a flat tone, "We are just here to meet the newly Master-ranked member. You don’t need to do anything, just take us to him."
Aster looked at the man and then said nervously, "I see, so you are here to meet Master Lucifer. He is probably treating the adventurers who just arrived, since the other members are busy. Can you wait for some time while he finishes treating them? Would you like anything to drink while you wait? We have plenty of snacks here you can eat."
The Master rank member made a slightly confused expression at that last remark, thinking inwardly, why do you even have so many snacks in a Church anyway, but not wanting to waste any more time, he looked at Aster and said, "We will just meet him right now, we don’t have any more time to waste. Just take us to him. We also need to see his healing and medical skills anyway, so it’s better to just meet him now and see how he treats the patients."
Aster simply said, "Okay, please follow me. I will take you to him."
Then the three of them started heading towards the back where Lucifer was, Aster walking some distance ahead of them. While walking, one of the Master rank men said to the other in a low tone, so Aster couldn’t hear them, "Kai, don’t you think it’s funny that a person named Lucifer is actually part of the Church?"
After hearing this, Kai looked at the man who’d said it and replied in a stern, low tone, "Ren, stop joking and focus on what we’re here for. I’m already tired of going from one branch to another. I hope this one is good enough so we can stop doing this and finally get some rest."
Ren looked at Kai and muttered, "You’re no fun." After saying this, he looked at Aster, who was walking ahead of them, and asked, "Hey, how is that Master Lucifer of yours? I never thought I’d find a Master rank still working in a town like this. He could have joined one of the bigger branches by now if he wanted to."
Aster turned back and said, "Yeah, but he doesn’t want to. I don’t really know the reason—maybe he just likes it here. He’s the first person to break through from our town in the last few years, As for what he’s like, he’s pretty normal, if you ignore a few things."
Ren wanted to ask what he meant by "if you ignore certain things," but before he could, they reached the operation room where Lucifer was treating the adventurers. Aster bowed and said, "He’s inside. You can go in now, I’ll take my leave."
Kai and Ren simply nodded, and Aster left, leaving them standing in front of the door.
Kai and Ren then entered the room and saw the adventurers they’d met outside, along with a man who was likely Master Lucifer, as they could sense he was Master rank, just like them. But while the two of them had mastered the light element, he was apparently a Master-rank healer.
When they took in the scene in front of them, however, they were more than a little confused. Lucifer held a small, sharp knife made of pure condensed mana in his hand, and he appeared to be about to cut off the entire arm of the man who’d been bitten by the snake.
The injured man was struggling to pull away, but the other three adventurers were holding him down.
Everyone in the room turned to look at Kai and Ren as they walked in.
For a moment, nobody said a word, the only sound the injured man’s ragged breathing and the faint hum of mana radiating off the blade in Lucifer’s hand.
Kai was the first to break the silence. "...May I ask why you’re cutting off his entire limb, when you could just use mana to push the venom to his fingers and then cut those off, or maybe just extract it by making him bleed there?"
Lucifer looked at Kai, unbothered, and said, "Yeah, but that would take too much time. It’s faster to just cut it off and regenerate it."
Kai looked at Lucifer and said, "Yeah, that’s true, but still, an entire limb—"
Lucifer looked at Kai and said, "Don’t teach me how to do it. I’ll do it however I think is right. And anyway, who are you, and why are you here in the first place?"
Ren answered this time. "We’re from the main Church. We’re here to talk to you about an important matter."
Ren wanted to say more, but Lucifer cut him off. "Well then, talk to me later. For now, just leave the room."
And then, without waiting for a response, he turned back to the injured man, the mana blade humming faintly in his grip. "Now, where was I? Right. Hold him still."
Kai’s eyebrow twitched. "We are your superior and you’re just going to dismiss us?"
"I’m a little busy," Lucifer said, not even glancing back. "Unless you’d rather I stop halfway through and let the venom finish the job. Your call."
The injured man made a muffled, panicked noise from where he was being held down.
Ren opened his mouth to argue, but Kai grabbed his arm and shook his head. "...Let’s wait outside."
