Chapter 2968: Chapter 2968. Rocks
"You aren’t looking for another arrow material?" Remmey found herself curious since Gil was not looking at any stone that she believed he could carve or shape in to an arrow. She had immediately believed that he would be looking for exactly that since he always experimented with arrows.
"No not right now, I need to try to find something that might be useful for Alma. I heard that it is customary that when a wife is carrying a child that the husband makes a small toy for their child. If I make something with gems in it it will be a choking hazard, if I make something that’s too heavy it won’t be a toy, but if I find something soft and safe but durable it can be passed down or improved on."
The thinking was too sweet and Remey lost any comments she had. But she also really liked that it would be a task for the husband of an elf to craft the first toy that the child would use.
"You should ask Walker to appraise more then, he said there are some interesting rocks that might be hollow near where the water mana influences the earth materials." with her input, Gil smiled a little before walking that way. He wasn’t asking Walker but he headed in the direction she had gestured.
Meanwhile, Remey went back to examining something called spark silver, a metal that somehow caused fire mana to dwell within and form minuscule fire elemental crystals. When they were exposed to the air the hidden crystals would spark causing an interesting reaction and a potential boost to fire related magic skills when used as a material.
She also knew that the remnant silver would burst and become an irritating powder which could enhance the strength and effects of her punches. So, she had already decided that this would be the material she wanted to harvest so that she could have some toughened gauntlets made from them. Something that she could rely on to enhance her fighting a little when she wanted to push the fire based attacks she used.
While she tried her best to find the perfect pieces that would be craftable, Su walked toward a taller cliff section of what she could only describe as some of the darkest obsidian she had ever seen.
Walker had appraised it for her and she was very impressed with what she had read.
’Gravitational obsidian
Due to the high amount of earth mana within and around this obsidian cooled over a long period of time and entirely devoid of any other mana, it has become a very unique form of obsidian that needs high strength to be broken.
It has very sharp edges and shatters in to extremely sharp shards making it even more dangerous when it breaks than when it is as a whole. However, this is what makes it a valuable rough material for many creations.
Its toughness is considered well past that of many metals forged or not. Due to this, it has been used to create unique doors elsewhere within existence. It is also known for being one of the toughest and sharpest natural blades.
To properly craft with it, an expert in earth foundational forging and in advanced gravity forging techniques...’
She saw the benefits in the fact that this was a material extremely tough and dangerous in terms of when it broke.
Su had used different kinds of shields and found each to have their uses. A shield that could have extremely sharp edges would be ideal for her more brutal combat style while also keeping the toughness needed to protect others.
While she usually used twin shields, her mind was switching toward that of a two handed shield. Specifically, a rounded tower shield to combat larger monsters and beings. Something that she could use that would have the durability and strength to keep up with her own strength. Besides the fact that she would be able to advance her two handed shield combat techniques to work with her twin shield combat techniques.
It was something that she normally did not focus on that she would need to improve and wanted to improve. By setting up more materials to be made in to more and more shields she would be able to keep exploring the means and skills that made up the guardians she met and taught.
When Walker glanced up, he gladly helped her break off a larger chunk of the material and store it away. He knew exactly what she was thinking and in turn asked her for help since Midnight had just found something also unique.
He expected Midnight to want something that might be made in to armor for her, but instead she landed on looking at salt.
"That is called deep earth salt, it is dangerous to eat but the tiniest bit can be used to store foods high in water content for a long time. The appraisal said that these potent salts are used to store some water monster meats for up to fifty years. That’s impressive." Midnight held her head high with the praise.
Or at least she took this as praise since she had found something very useful.
Her thinking might have been food driven, but it was good enough that she could also share some things about this form of salt with others. Besides, if she showed this to his mother then she might just ask her to bring all of the deep earth salt and find a better place to get more in case they needed it for the restaurant and general storage of food overall.
Genesis could even use this as a way to research better food preservation.
There were multiple great uses that were not based simply in the material alone. It could be used to theorize different forms of storage for foods high in water content and other uses. Whatever the case, Walker was glad that Midnight had chosen this.
"What are you going to choose brother?" Midnight leaned against Walker’s arm and looked at what he might have in his hands. When he showed her a small red gem that was barely the size of his fingernail, she scrunched her face in confusion.
"I know it isn’t larger or more impressive looking compared to everyone else, but, it is perfect."
’Rune trap ruby
This is a unique dense deep earth formed ruby that took over seventy three thousands years to form before being trapped in the earth of this elemental plane. Due to this, it has been absorbing gravitational mana and various forms of earth mana the entire time.
As such natural events occurred, there was the natural formation of a true earth rune. This rune is flexible and extremely open to various forms of earth amna. It is also able to hold massive amounts of earth mana and slowly release those manas in to the earth and atmosphere around it.
While rune trap gems occur very rarely, this one is unique as it is stronger than most due to the pressure and densities of mana. Therefore, it is extremely useful in understanding the purity and unique changes within earth mana as a whole. It would be a valuable research subject for even the strongest of earth mages or scholars researching earth mana.
There is a very high chance that with the right care, the trapped natural earth rune within can be activated and used to supply earth mana to various rune formations at once without damage or cracking of the gem itself...’
Walker read out loud the appraisal and smiled. This tiny gem could be so useful and he knew he had chosen the right item to bring out and follow the rules.
"I found this, it reminds me of soapstone but this is better since it is smooth and light. I would bet that it will carve in to a rattle too since there are small pieces already trapped in the hollow inside."
Seeing Gil holding a larger stone, Walker appraised it and raised his eyebrows. "Gil, you know that you just chose a float stone geode, right? Inside are various water and earth affinity gems that are perfectly fused with that stone. It would be the ideal piece to a mobile that radiates natural water and earth manas around a crib."
Walker’s appraisal and input sparked inspiration within Gil. He didn’t let go of the rock until he was forced to accept that Walker needed to store it away as they left. But he also clearly had a better idea than just a rattle. Instead, he was imagining what he might be able to carve out of brilliant mana rich stones to soothe his future child asleep.
His focus on this earned him plenty of teasing from Remey, but also the lighter aura that came with everyone being impressed and happy with their exploration so far.
