Chapter 2956: Chapter 2956. Getting Thins Sorted Out
Just looking at this clutch of eggs for a monster that could literally cause damage to the entirety of the elemental planes if they were not cared for properly and watched over was something shocking.
Walker had come in to contact with plenty of monsters like this. But this instance was more so because he had looked at them and understood the threat just from his mana senses alone. The intense dark mana that came to them and radiated around them was barely kept in control by the multiple steps taken to keep them from hatching.
The fact that the hollow eyed race had these was also stunning. Not in a good way either. It was like they were compressing a mana gem and filling it with opposing manas without the right structure just hoping that it wouldn’t break. Keeping on that edge of mana explosion just for fun.
Anyone else would realize that they were doing something stupid by doing so, especially without a master there to keep care and ensure the safety of everyone else. Even more so when this item was only cared for using the materials and tools clearly provided by others far away and not easily replaced at short notice!
Then Walker was forced to wonder how they even got these eggs. How this clutch of eggs could be taken from an adult abyss kraken?
Being able to steal eggs like this didn’t seem possible, meaning that they were most likely broken off of a larger clutch or the kraken that lost them perished due to their own actions. But whatever the case, they were here now revealing more truths to Walker.
The statement within the partial appraisal that Walker read was specifically standing out to him. Not the statement about higher mana affinity or mutating mana affinity to become purely dark mana related.
It was the history of the abyss kraken descending from a cosmic kraken that lived out in the chaotic manas and grew to consume elemental planes. That was where Walker found himself stuck.
It meant that other monsters he may encounter could be the same or might have been the same and the appraisal was just so far away from that change in species that it no longer shared information about the descendants of such monsters. That alone proved that there might be more within the world that spoke out about the past and where some races or monsters originated from.
It could also be said that some of the beings of the world’s ancient history might have origins like that.
No one from the vampire race, the dragon race, or even the immortal chasing race could explain their race’s origins.
The immortal chasing race was an exception since they were technically extinct for all intents and purposes. The vampire race lost too much of their history because of their inner turmoil as a race. Then the dragons had been declining and even with the better records being kept they did not prioritize the origin of their being, yet they did have tales and stories that may or may not be true.
All of this being the case, Walker worried that monsters greater than what he had even begun to contemplate might become more and more common to him and the others within the party. Simply because he and they were going to encounter such things naturally while they fought and grew. While they looked for more information on what everything would be as Genesis expanded and the world and elemental planes became closer.
Taking a deep breath, he used his mana manipulation skills to halt the dark mana around the eggs and stabilize the chances of them hatching. He had no idea if there would be able to be a tamer that could handle them. He just knew that looking around, the various monster eggs that needed attention was longer of a list than he wished it to be.
Dark spinners, a spider species had over fifty eggs all lined up in little jars. Able to grow to the size of his face if allowed to, but also poisonous and able to spin poison webbing to trap prey. While they lacked venom, the poison was just as good if not better.
The black star fly, a species of small fly monster that was overall harmless unless introduced to light mana where they would explode and cause a wave of decaying mana to poison the environment around them, were an interesting weak but extremely dangerous monster depending on the situation.
Even worse, Walker found several eggs from the earth and fire elemental planes. Preserved with unique materials that also should not easily be here.
The sheer number of contracts that had bound other merchants outside of the hollow eyed race’s territory also came as a shock.
Many provided monsters and materials having been trapped in to contracts that required them too. Some of the contracts that Walker was looking at posted beside the eggs as bragging trophies described the fact that those bound by them would perish or lose the abilities to manipulate specific manas at the cost of failure to uphold the contract. A few even had added notes where more and more contracts were added to the deals effectively imprisoning those merchants to work constantly for the hollow eyed race.
These things spreading out of the dark elemental plane was both impressive and disgusting.
On one hand it showed that their entire race were merchants capable of exceeding what was the expected potential. Yet, it also proved that there were those who did not need to be so ruthless but used it to ensure they grew more and more without control.
"Horrible business. At least I just take and take while people pay too much." The dastardly giggle came from shadows around and Walker recognized the arrival of a familiar merchant who had once tried to sneak in to the world from one of the bridges to the elemental planes.
"No worries. No worries. The sage said I could come. You have items to sell. Items to trade. Items you can’t easily bring back. I can handle it. I can make them go away." The grin was the only feature different. An even darker black to the shadowy figure of the merchant now standing taller than they had before.
Yet, there was a n air of trustworthiness in them unlike the last time Walker encountered them. From what he could sense in his gut, the merchant had been put through some rigorous lessons to be able to act a bit more proper. Even despite the tone and clearly price gouging methods they may take. This merchant wouldn’t destroy a life for profit, they would just let someone do it to themselves.
"I like what you did. They always undercut me. Always stopped trade. They even ate up seven caravans leaving this area who all thought that they would strike it rich. No one even comes this way any more. Now they can. So you can have a special deal, we will give you forty percent of all sales so that you can take care of these little creatures more easily."
Now Walker understood why the true dark sage had released this troublesome merchant and sent him here.
"You will give us seventy percent of sale and specifically in items needed to heal, rehabilitate, relocate, and protect the monsters here. If you try anything less than that you can find another territory that is being saved from cruelty. You can go on out there looking for another stockpile of wealth that you will safely make a massive profit on."
The kindness in Walker’s words sounded like he was offering help but realistically just telling him to leave in a sweet tone.
"Ohhhh, If I was allowed to say no I would make sure to take you for all that you have but you are lucky. I am promised soul to soul with the sage. So I will take the profit and be happy. I will call out quite a few to help." The grin flickered as the shadowy merchant disappeared right before the familiar mana of Mordant reappeared. This time with almost twenty dark affinity tamers in tow.
Walker knew that he would be working hard with appraisals and sharing what might be found in the books here. Plus the guards and other races that used to be contracted to help here.
There would be many new tamers born soon and the quests would only increase. He just needed to help at the two ends to bring them together. After that, everyone would stand on their own two feet and accomplish amazing things. He just had to get them to the start of that path.
Then again, he was always impressed with the people he met, now would not be different.
