Chapter 312: Chapter 312: The Wheel Of Fortune Favors The Bold [Part 1]
"Leone, I’ve decided," Elias said with excitement. "Please give me a Pteranodon."
"Understood," Leone replied.
He and Daedalus were laughing inwardly. Having a flying spy was far better than having one on the ground.
With that, it could give them a bird’s-eye view of the Grimhowl Tribe’s domain, as well as let them better understand their capabilities.
Of course, Leone wasn’t gifting Elias a mount out of pure generosity. He just deemed that Hagen was a very dangerous opponent that must be kept in check.
Then again, all the monsters they had gifted to the other tribes had served them well as spies.
Who knew what more hardship the Aslan Tribe would have suffered if they hadn’t been aware of the movements of the Darkmane Tribe, which contributed to Hassan, Blitz, Arion, and Otto’s successful mission.
In a land where information played an important role in wars, Leone was more than happy to give away his mounts.
It was a win-win situation for everyone.
Their owners were happy, and Leone was happy.
Vlad was very tempted to say that he also wanted a Pteranodon. However, seeing Rappy’s sad expression made the teenage boy reconsider his options.
"Rappy, it’s fine," Vlad said as he patted the Drake’s head. "How about we go for a ride?"
Rappy nodded its head before sitting down obediently to allow Vlad to mount its back. A moment later, the happy Drake descended the mountain as it headed toward the forest past the river to give its Master a different kind of sightseeing experience.
After getting his own Pteranodon, Elias was very happy. In fact, he even gave it the name Azure.
The next day...
A feast was held at the base of the mountain.
The Aslan Tribe, the Ravage Tribe, and the Red-Scale Tribe had gathered to celebrate their victory against the enemies that had tried to invade their domain.
Since everyone was grieving a few days ago, Leone decided to postpone the victory party until they had given the dead a proper burial.
Everyone welcomed this celebration. It was also a way to honor the dead, telling them that those who were left behind would continue to move forward and live their lives to the fullest.
While everyone was eating, drinking, and making merry, Leone walked up to the stage with a smile.
"Are all of you having fun?" Leone asked.
"""Yes!"""
"Good!" Leone smiled. "Because I have a way to make things more fun! The time has come once again for us to play the Wheel of Fortune!"
"""Yeah!"""
The Aslan Tribe cheered, already familiar with what would come next.
The Ravage Tribe, on the other hand, joined the merrymaking and decided to see just what this special event was about.
Leone only had thirty chances to spin the wheel, so he could only limit the number of people spinning.
Because of this, he decided to give his vassals one try each.
He also planned to give their guests—Vlad, Tianna, and Elias—one try each.
"Great Chieftain, please grant me two tries!" Kael pleaded. "Please! Just this once! I won’t ask for anything else in the future!"
"F-Fine!" Leone replied. "Don’t pull my pants down!"
Laughter spread throughout the surroundings, which made Kael laugh out loud.
Though deep inside, he was saying, "Just as planned!" which made him incredibly happy.
"I’ll be the last to spin the wheel," Kael declared. "So everyone, please have fun!"
Logan, Rasta, and Khan were also given a chance to spin the wheel once.
Since the Ravage Tribe and their guests had no idea what the wheel represented, Leone explained the rules to them.
"The skulls represent a dud, so if the pointer goes there, you don’t win any prizes," Leone stated. "The sword symbol represents a weapon, the armor represents a piece of armor, and so on. As for the [???], that represents an incredible prize.
"Unfortunately, it’s completely random. Still, you should aim for them when you spin the wheel."
The rules were really simple, so now that the explanation was done, the young chieftain decided to let Blitz take the first turn.
"Go, Blitz!" Leone ordered. "Spin a winner!"
*Squeak!*
Blitz saluted and jumped on top of the spinning wheel. It then started to run, making the wheel spin faster.
When it deemed that the time was right, it hopped off the wheel and flew towards Fury, landing on the Dire Bear’s back.
The children clapped their hands while listening to the familiar music, waiting for the pointer of the wheel to stop.
[1,000 BP]
*Squeak!*
Blitz raised its hands in triumph. At least it won something.
"Good!" Leone replied with a smile. "I’ll let you choose your prize later, Blitz."
*Squeak!*
"What’s BP?" Elias asked.
Leone momentarily forgot that he hadn’t explained what BP was to his guests. Of course, he had no intention of explaining it as well.
"BP is the term we use for food rations," Leone answered without batting an eye. "The higher the BP, the more delicious the food that will be served to that person. You’ve eaten the bread of the Aslan Tribe, right?"
"Yes." Elias nodded. "They were the best-tasting bread I’ve ever had in my life."
"Well, what if I tell you that there is a more delicious type of bread?" Leone grinned. "That is what I will give Blitz later."
The flying squirrel was well aware of what BP signified. However, the mere mention of delicious bread was enough to make it salivate.
In fact, the other squirrels had started squeaking as well, chanting "Bread!" "Bread!" "Bread!" in their own language.
"Fine, I’ll let you guys have some too," Leone decided to pacify the little guys, who had now become bread connoisseurs.
The second to spin was Arion.
The Pegasus raised its hoof and placed it on the handle of the wheel before giving it a good stomp.
A moment later, the wheel stopped spinning, stopping on the armor symbol.
[Congratulations! You have won the Radiant Sun Armor!]
The Wheel of Fortune then bathed Arion in a golden light. When it receded, the Pegasus was already wearing golden armor that made it look truly majestic.
"Wow."
Even Leone couldn’t help but be amazed at how cool Arion looked right now.
Elias and Tianna’s eyes widened in shock. By now, they finally understood what the Wheel of Fortune was.
A magical artifact.
Perhaps it was even an ancient artifact that held powers beyond human understanding!
Logan, Rasta, and Khan were also amazed and had become more eager to spin the wheel that was throwing out prizes left and right.
Yet, Leone was feeling confused at the sight.
The Wheel of Fortune had given two consecutive prizes.
As far as he remembered, it wasn’t that generous in the past. Usually, those who spun it first would get a dud.
’Should I spin?’ Leone thought. ’After all, the third time is the charm.’
Though before he could even do what he was thinking, someone else stepped onto the stage to try their luck.
It was none other than Khan, who decided to be the opening representative of the Ravage Tribe.
Leone couldn’t possibly say no to him, so he told the Orc Warlord "good luck" since he was a first-timer.
With that, Khan spun the wheel, looking very excited.
The young chieftain didn’t have the heart to tell him to stop setting his expectations too high. In its short history with their tribe, the Wheel of Fortune had notoriously disappointed a lot of people.
Yet, when the pointer of the wheel stopped, it pointed at a sword symbol, which meant that Khan had won a weapon.
[Congratulations! You have won the Bryntroll Axe!]
’What the...’ Leone almost choked on his saliva. Someone won again? This was the third time in a row! ’Could it be that the third time really is the charm?’
He didn’t have any luck when it came to spinning the wheel. Every time he did, the only prize he got was laughter from the crowd.
"Hahaha!" Khan raised the massive axe that was at least two meters long with one hand, swinging it around as if it was as light as a feather. "This is a good axe!"
The Bryntroll Axe was made from blackened steel. The axe blade was jagged like the fangs of a great beast. Beneath its surface, veins of crimson light faintly pulsed, making it seem as though the weapon itself possessed a heartbeat.
Along the spine of the axe, countless runes carved in forgotten tongues glowed with an eerie blood-red radiance.
’Daedalus, what grade is that axe?’ Leone asked.
’Epic Grade,’ Daedalus replied. ’It’s an axe that makes its wielder stronger when it cuts through the flesh of their enemies.’
—————-
[Bryntroll Axe]
Weapon Type: Two-Handed Axe
Grade: Epic
"An axe forged from the frozen bones of ancient giants and tempered within the icy halls of death."
Physical Attack: 300 - 450
Weapon Effect: Strength is increased by 15% for 10 seconds with each successful strike.
Description: Every strike that tears into an enemy’s flesh grants its wielder a temporary increase in Strength.
—————
’Yikes.’ Leone couldn’t help but shudder after seeing the description of the axe through Daedalus’ appraisal. ’It says two-handed, but Khan is only using one hand to wield it.’
’Well, he IS an Orc Warlord,’ Daedalus answered in return. ’He is strong enough to wield it that way.’
’Still, how come there are three consecutive winners?’ Leone blinked. ’Is the sun going to rise from the west tomorrow or something?’
Daedalus chuckled in response, but it didn’t answer its Master. The Wheel of Fortune was a sentient Divine Artifact. It was a well-known fact that it was not easy to win this game of chance.
But even then, the grimoire knew that there were times when the Divine Artifact could be generous.
After all, there was a saying that "Fortune favors the bold."
Sometimes, the Wheel of Fortune would follow this principle. However, many didn’t know that there was a hidden mechanic on how someone could win prizes from it.
And that mechanic was related to someone’s performance or their overall accumulated karma, which the Wheel would gauge as soon as it was spun.
