Chapter 450: Chapter 450: Start of the War Or Not
Looking at the new arrival, both the Crimson Arc Guild and the spectators behind them were filled with curiosity.
Countless pairs of eyes immediately shifted toward the approaching Horn Lizard messenger.
Was the war going to start?
Thinking of this, everyone’s heart almost leapt out of their throats in anticipation.
The long-awaited moment they had patiently endured for since yesterday might finally have arrived.
Many even moved closer to the edge of the battlefield. They couldn’t afford to miss anything, not even a fraction of a second. Some even climbed nearby dunes and rocks to gain a better view of the unfolding events.
As for those who wanted to fish in troubled waters, they had already started rubbing their hands together.
Their eyes shone with greed as they silently prayed for the battle to erupt as soon as possible.
For a moment, a strange silence permeated the battlefield, everyone holding their breath.
Even the usual desert wind seemed to have quieted, making the atmosphere even more oppressive.
Some wanted to question what was going on but held their tongues.
Among the Crimson Arc Guild, Kiera was not the only one who was restless. Every one of them was on edge.
Even their Guild Master, Solenne, could not hide her restlessness and curiosity.
Although her expression remained calm, the slight narrowing of her eyes betrayed the thoughts racing through her mind.
Her gaze locked onto the new arrival, wanting to know what was going on with the Horn Lizard Clan.
The newly arrived Horn Lizard man whispered to the Army Commander for a couple of seconds.
After delivering his message, he turned around without the slightest hesitation and quickly disappeared toward the rear of the army.
Watching all this, even a fool could now tell something was going on.
But whether it was good or bad.
No one could tell.
Thus, they could only watch and see how things unfolded. Every spectator unconsciously clenched their fists as they patiently waited for the next development.
As the Horn Lizard messenger departed, the quiet and well-coordinated Horn Lizard soldiers began to move.
The orderly formation that had remained still for nearly two days finally sprang into action.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Their heavy footsteps thundered across the ground.
Shockwaves spread everywhere, and clouds of desert sand rose into the air as two thousand heavily armored warriors marched in perfect unison toward Scorpion City.
"Is it finally starting?"
"Hahaha! This is what I’m talking about. Let’s see how those damned Scorpion Men react now."
"But do you think two thousand Horn Lizard Men can shake the foundation of the mighty Scorpion Clan?"
"Idiot! What do you know? Don’t you see we humans are supporting them? Do you think the Crimson Arc Guild is just for show?"
As the Horn Lizard soldiers marched steadily toward Scorpion City, everywhere was charged with anticipation and excitement.
The previously quiet spectators instantly erupted into loud discussions as everyone fixed their eyes on the advancing army.
"Let’s go..." Solenne commanded, her face filled with relief.
She immediately stepped forward.
’I guess I’m being paranoid,’ she thought as a faint smile crept onto her lips.
Now that the Horn Lizard soldiers had begun their march, the Scorpion Clan had no choice but to fight them or open their gates for them.
Listening to their Guild Master’s command, the Crimson Arc Guild roared in excitement as they began to move in formation.
Tanks to their positions.
Vanguard in the lead.
Archers at the back.
Healers at the center.
As for the others, they spread across both the right flank and the left flank.
Meanwhile, on the Scorpion City wall, the Scorpion Guards were running back and forth, shouting orders.
Their once orderly defense had become noticeably frantic as panic slowly spread among the defenders.
Fear and nervousness gripped their hearts.
Although they desperately tried to maintain their composure, every approaching step of the Horn Lizard Army felt like a heavy hammer striking against their hearts.
The Scorpion Guard Captain roared continuously, trying to fortify the wall’s defenses as best as he could.
He repeatedly issued commands while directing guards to reinforce weak points along the city walls.
His body was covered in perspiration.
Sweat continuously rolled down his forehead.
’Why in the Three Bloody Moons has the King not responded to our urgent report?’
’This is war! What are the King and the elders thinking? Do they want all of us dead before they step forward?’
His heart was in his throat, and he swallowed hard.
Every passing second without orders from the royal palace only made him feel increasingly abandoned.
’Should I escape?’
The strange thought popped into his mind for a moment, but he quickly shook his head.
He turned back and looked at the now empty and quiet streets for a moment before taking a deep breath.
The once lively streets had become completely deserted.
’As the Guard Captain, I must show everyone the spirit of the Scorpion Clan.’
"Prepare for battle!" he shouted.
His voice echoed across the city walls, forcing the frightened guards to regain their focus.
Even though he was scared, he knew he couldn’t escape the incoming battle.
Whether he lived or died, this was the responsibility he had accepted the day he became Captain of the City Guards.
Thus, he decided to face it head-on.
Since the army was gone, now was his time to take up the mantle and defend his beloved clan.
He gripped his weapon tightly, and his eyes blazed with strong fighting intent.
Beside him, hundreds of guards stood with ugly expressions.
Some couldn’t even stop their hands from shaking, while others silently prayed that they would survive the coming war.
"Hold your ground!"
"This is the moment to prove to the world that we, the Scorpion Clan, are the chosen clan."
"Before us, every clan had to submit."
"Today, we will show the spirit of our Scorpion Clan!" the Guard Captain shouted, his face flushed with confidence and pride.
Every word was spoken with conviction even though he was shaking inwardly.
"Howl!"
With the short pep talk, the guards roared in excitement, and their morale rose sharply.
The fear that had clouded their minds was temporarily pushed aside as pride in their clan filled their hearts once more.
They stared at the incoming Horn Lizard soldiers without fear.
Every guard tightened his grip on his weapon, ready to fight until his very last breath.
Just as the Horn Lizard soldiers were less than one hundred meters from the Scorpion City wall, their movement suddenly changed.
They turned back sharply and pointed their weapons at the people behind them.
