Chapter 395: Chapter 395 - 368: Infrastructure Maniac
After watching the foundation being poured for a while, Fang Chenyi led Wei Yilong back to the command center.
Professor Wu noticed Fang Chenyi’s arrival, but he only spared him a single glance before resuming his direction of the work. He was simply too busy to greet him.
According to Wei Yilong, Professor Wu definitely wouldn’t leave until this particular foundation pillar was finished.
"You’re doing some really excellent work, Yilong."
Back at the command center, Fang Chenyi’s first words were a commendation for Wei Yilong.
In less than a month, the construction site was already in full swing. Not only had all the relocation work been taken care of, but nearly a third of the foundation leveling for the entire commercial district was already underway.
’What kind of speed is this? At this rate, the original five-year completion plan might even be finished a year or two ahead of schedule!’
"Ah, it’s nothing. It’s mainly thanks to your incredible financial backing, Brother Fang! Right now, we have over 130 construction teams, large and small, and that’s just for the leveling phase. Once the foundations are ready, my plan is to assign the 7,000-plus buildings in the commercial district to 700 different construction teams. That means each team will be responsible for about ten buildings. Then the landscaping, road paving, and all that will also be divided by zone and handed off to different companies. We’ll have them compete against each other, and that’s how we’ll get the speed up!"
After hearing Wei Yilong out, Fang Chenyi frowned and asked a question.
"That will certainly increase the speed, but with so many different companies involved, how can we guarantee the quality?"
Fang Chenyi’s concern was not unfounded. After all, the capabilities of each construction team would surely differ, and he worried that this inconsistency would compromise the overall quality of the construction.
However, Wei Yilong had clearly already considered this. He answered without hesitation.
"Hehe, that’s a totally valid concern, Brother Fang. I was worried about the same thing at first. But then I discussed it with Professor Wu, and we came up with a perfect solution."
At this, Wei Yilong couldn’t help but pause for dramatic effect. But when he saw Fang Chenyi’s foot starting to look dangerously restless, he flinched, shrank his neck, and quickly continued with a sheepish grin.
"Ahaha, so here’s the plan. You know how we partnered with the universities? Top students from all the major architecture and construction schools across the country will be coming here for internships. Professor Wu’s idea is to assign the construction teams to them. They’ll form individual research groups, with each group taking responsibility for their assigned teams and the progress of the construction. And the best part is, their performance will be directly linked to their graduation grades!"
Here, Wei Yilong paused, picked up a glass of water, and took a large gulp before continuing.
"Furthermore, I proposed that we establish a Best Team Award. We’ll select the most outstanding team from those who complete their projects and exceed expectations. The grand prize will be one million RMB! But that’s not all. There will be a second-place prize of five hundred thousand, and a third-place prize of three hundred thousand! On top of that, every student in every group will receive a daily living allowance of one hundred yuan."
Fang Chenyi’s eyes lit up when he heard this. ’He had to admit, if this could spark some healthy competition among the students, they would probably all push themselves to their absolute limits on their assigned projects!’
However, Fang Chenyi then shook his head. Just as Wei Yilong started to wonder if he’d miscalculated somewhere, Fang Chenyi finally spoke.
"The idea itself is perfect, but about this prize money..."
Wei Yilong’s face fell. He said, crestfallen, "Brother Fang, I know the prize money sounds like a lot, but considering what we get in terms of project quality, it’s not an unacceptable expense, is it?"
Fang Chenyi irritably rapped Wei Yilong on the head.
"When did I say it was too much? I was thinking the prize money is too low. Let’s do this: each member of the first-place team gets five million! Each member of the second-place team gets three million! And third place gets one million per person. Oh, right. Wouldn’t the team in charge of the Stellar and Planet Towers have a huge advantage?"
’If they really do it this way,’ Fang Chenyi suddenly realized, ’then the teams responsible for the nine main towers will definitely be the ones to take the top spots.’
Hearing this, Wei Yilong grinned.
"Hehe, Brother Fang, do you really think Professor Wu would be comfortable handing over the nine towers to students? You can rest easy on that front. Since you weren’t here and we couldn’t get in touch with you, we went ahead and decided amongst ourselves. Professor Wu will personally lead the work on those nine towers, with other renowned professors from various universities as his team members. And those nine towers won’t be part of the competition. Oh, and those same professors will also be responsible for overseeing their own respective student teams."
Hearing this, all of Fang Chenyi’s doubts were dispelled, and he felt completely at ease.
Suddenly, Wei Yilong slapped his forehead as if remembering something.
"Oh, right, right! Brother Fang, Professor Wu has been wanting to get the design blueprints from you! He said your design is a single, integrated concept and wanted to ask if you have the rest of the plans."
Fang Chenyi nodded.
"Ah, silly me, I completely forgot. I brought all the blueprints with me; they’re in my car. I’ll go grab them in a minute. Even though I was abroad this past month, I never stopped working on the drawings."
’Drawing, my ass,’ he thought. ’I spent the whole damn month at sea.’ Of course, he was just saying that to have a reasonable excuse. The blueprints were actually in his storage space right now, but it wouldn’t do to just conjure them out of thin air.
It seemed that from spending so much time with Fang Chenyi, Wei Yilong had subconsciously started to emulate his personality, adopting some of his get-it-done-now attitude.
The moment he heard the blueprints were in the car, the man immediately tried to drag Fang Chenyi out to get them.
Smiling and shaking his head, Fang Chenyi followed him outside.
Once outside, Fang Chenyi was left speechless when he saw the guy heading for that huge dump truck again.
"Seriously, Yilong, how did you end up driving this thing?"
As he stood on his tiptoes to pull the heavy door open, Wei Yilong replied nonchalantly, "Hah, I’ve got no choice. The ground around here is too uneven. My dad’s Raptor only survived out here for two weeks before the damn thing snapped an axle..."
Fang Chenyi was once again at a loss for words. Even that tough-looking Raptor had snapped its axle...
He shook his head helplessly. ’Oh well. Good thing I already had Xiaotian go out to procure some off-road vehicles. I’ll just have some sent over to the site when they arrive.’
After he climbed into the dump truck, Wei Yilong slammed his foot on the gas, and the truck let out a deafening roar.
"Oh right, Yilong, I forgot to ask. How are things at the waste management center? Is it operational yet?"
