Chapter 393: Chapter 393 - 366: I Was Blind
Fang Chenyi’s sudden move stunned everyone. No one understood what he was doing.
’Why did he just toss it into a gunny sack?’
The middle-aged man standing nearby grew even more annoyed as he watched. He arrogantly thought to himself, ’This is a slap in my face!’
So he spoke in a sarcastic tone:
"Well, well. Are you just tossing it out like trash? Or are you planning to fish it out later to use? Oh, right, didn’t you want to buy one for yourself, too? Miss, why haven’t you rung him up yet?"
’This guy just won’t quit,’ Fang Chenyi thought. He had no intention of dealing with him, but the man was practically begging for a confrontation.
But when the saleswoman got another phone for Fang Chenyi, unboxed it, and charged him for both devices, the middle-aged man’s face fell, and he finally shut his mouth.
However, he was sneering inwardly. ’Two phones cost nearly fifteen thousand. That’s probably half a year’s salary for this kid!’
Just then, the replacement SIM card was ready. Ignoring the middle-aged man still lingering beside him, Fang Chenyi took the phone with the newly installed card and powered it on.
The SIM card had just been installed, and before he could even stand up, the phone in his hand began to ring.
Since it was a new phone, he had no idea who was calling.
He tapped the answer button and offered a polite greeting.
The moment the person on the other end heard Fang Chenyi’s voice, a whining tone came through the receiver:
"Oh, my dear Brother Fang! My boss! My lord! Your eminence has finally deigned to turn on his phone!"
He recognized the voice. It was Wei Yilong. The kid knew Fang Chenyi had gone to Dubai, but he had no idea his plane had been in an accident.
"Heh, Yilong. My phone fell into the ocean. I just got a new SIM card. Are you at the construction site? I’ll head over in a little while."
The phone’s volume wasn’t low, and since the three other people in the shop were silent, they all overheard the voice coming from the earpiece.
When they heard Fang Chenyi mention a "construction site," it seemed to confirm all three of their previous suspicions.
’Looks like this guy really is a construction worker.’
But the next thing they heard from the phone’s earpiece stunned them all.
Wei Yilong’s exasperated voice came through the phone:
"Of course I am! I’m pretty much living at the site these days! Oh, right, Boss, it’d be great if you came over. The five billion you wired for the project last time is all gone. When do you think you can send the next payment, Boss!"
The first part of the sentence was nothing special, but the mention of "five billion" stunned all three of them. They each thought they must have misheard, that they were hearing things.
Fang Chenyi seemed to sense their strange looks. He stood up, gave the two saleswomen a smiling nod, and then headed for the door, gunny sack in one hand and phone in the other. Once he was a little further away, he spoke to Wei Yilong again.
"It’s all gone? It’s only been a little over half a month, hasn’t it? And the follow-up funding from Southern Airlines hasn’t arrived yet?"
Watching Fang Chenyi walk out of the store, the three behind him exchanged a look. The middle-aged man sneered contemptuously.
"What a load of bullshit... No, I have to go see if the five-billion-dollar tycoon rode a bicycle here!"
After saying this, he followed him toward the entrance.
The two saleswomen didn’t follow him out, but they immediately turned their eyes to the security camera monitor covering the entrance.
Of course, Fang Chenyi himself was paying no mind to the events back in the store.
When the middle-aged man pushed the door open and stepped outside, he was just in time to see Fang Chenyi, still on the phone, pull open the door of a supercar and slide inside.
The man froze when he saw this. ’What the—? Holy shit! The supercar I saw earlier belongs to this kid dressed like a construction worker?’
His mind immediately flashed back to the phone call. ’Five billion! Could that have been real?’
He looked at the supercar, then thought back to the young man’s simple clothes. The middle-aged man suddenly understood what a truly wealthy person was, what a truly capable person was.
’So all this time, I’ve been playing the clown in front of him.’
’It wasn’t that he was afraid of me; he just never even considered me worth his notice.’
In an instant, his back was soaked with cold sweat. ’If a man that formidable wanted to deal with me, wouldn’t it be as easy as crushing an ant?’
’Why couldn’t I keep my damn mouth shut! How could I have offended someone like that!’
’I really overestimated myself! What am I going to do?’
Meanwhile, the two saleswomen inside had also witnessed Fang Chenyi getting into the supercar on the security monitor. For a moment, they were both too stunned to speak.
’The poor kid we thought was a construction worker is actually a mega-rich tycoon!’
’No wonder he was so quick to buy someone a new phone. No wonder he just tossed the returned phone into that gunny sack without a second thought.’
’And the construction site? He probably owns the whole thing.’
After hesitating at the door for a moment, the middle-aged man came to a decision and strode quickly toward Fang Chenyi’s supercar.
Fang Chenyi, still on his call, hadn’t started the engine yet.
When the man reached the car, he saw that Fang Chenyi was still on the phone, so he stood respectfully to the side, slightly stooped, and waited.
Fang Chenyi saw the man through the car window and couldn’t help but frown. ’What is with this guy? I ignore him, and he just gets more persistent!’
He told Wei Yilong he’d talk to him later in person, then lowered the car window.
"What is it? I bought you a new phone and you’re still not satisfied?"
Seeing the window come down and hearing Fang Chenyi’s words, the middle-aged man knew he’d been misunderstood. He quickly bowed even lower, a look of profound regret on his face as he smiled fawningly.
"No, no, that’s not it, sir! I’m so sorry for what happened earlier. I was blind and didn’t recognize your greatness. Please don’t stoop to my level. Here, uh, this is your phone. I haven’t even opened it. Take it back, please take it back. You can just give me my old one... er, no, no, I don’t want my old one back either! I don’t want it!"
’It’s no joke,’ he thought. ’Rich people like him are experts at hiding their true feelings. He might be smiling, but who knows if he’s already holding a grudge? He could send people to cause trouble for me later.’
