Chapter 370: Chapter 370 - 346: The Waterfall
The gorilla was quite obedient. Upon hearing Fang Chenyi, it immediately moved the beam of the high-intensity flashlight away from him.
However, it seemed extremely interested in what Fang Chenyi had just said about the light being blinding. After moving it away, the creature turned the flashlight around and pointed it directly at its own large face.
The next moment, the creature let out a strange cry. It threw the flashlight far away, then squatted on the ground, covering its eyes and howling incessantly.
Fang Chenyi was speechless at the sight. ’Despite its huge size, this thing has the mentality of a five or six-year-old kid. It’s curious about everything.’
Resigned, he walked over, picked up the flashlight it had thrown, and approached the big fella to comfort it.
The gorilla squatted on the ground, covering its eyes for a good while. Once its vision seemed to recover, it looked up at Fang Chenyi and began to whimper pitifully.
It looked just like a small child tattling to its parents after being wronged.
After a bit of comforting, the big fella finally calmed down. However, a new look of fear had entered its eyes whenever it glanced at the high-intensity flashlight.
When Fang Chenyi tried to hand the flashlight back to the creature, it absolutely refused to take it.
Seeing this, Fang Chenyi didn’t force the issue. Instead, he recalled that the creature had been trying to lead him somewhere earlier, so he asked directly:
"Big fella, were you trying to take me somewhere earlier?"
Hearing Fang Chenyi’s words, the creature first froze, then scratched its head as if it had just remembered something. The pitiful look on its face was instantly replaced by excitement.
It glanced at the flashlight in Fang Chenyi’s hand and decided against grabbing him. Instead, it gestured for Fang Chenyi to follow before turning and diving into the tall grass to the side.
Fang Chenyi quickly followed. After only a couple of steps, however, he realized with dismay that his expensive suit was getting torn to shreds in the jungle. The sound of fabric ripping echoed from time to time.
The gorilla up ahead, however, with its tough hide, paid no mind to the branches snagging its fur. For it, it was no different from scratching an itch.
After moving a few paces, it noticed Fang Chenyi hadn’t kept up and actually had the sense to stop and wait for him.
Thankfully, Fang Chenyi was in excellent physical shape. With the big fella clearing a path ahead, the journey wasn’t too strenuous.
After following the creature for nearly half an hour, he suddenly heard the sound of rushing water.
Yes, flowing water. The sound was distinctly different from the surrounding ocean waves—it sounded more like a waterfall.
But since it was night, he couldn’t see anything.
Finally, after another five or six minutes of running, they rounded a small hill. A great waterfall, over ten meters high, suddenly appeared before them, illuminated by the moonlight.
The flow of water wasn’t particularly heavy, however; it was only about two or three meters wide at most.
At the base of the waterfall was a pool about the size of a basketball court. The gorilla was standing beside it, gesticulating excitedly at Fang Chenyi.
He slung the rifle over his back and walked over as well.
He swept the flashlight beam across the pool, startling countless small creatures.
OOH! OOH! OOH!
The gorilla pointed at the pool, gesturing nonstop at Fang Chenyi.
"You’re saying you bathe here?"
Fang Chenyi couldn’t understand the creature’s noises. Watching it gesture wildly, he had no idea if his guess was correct.
Upon hearing this, however, the gorilla shook its large head back and forth like a rattle.
After another couple of hoots, it suddenly pointed at the pool and began crying out in excitement.
Hearing this, Fang Chenyi hurried forward and shone his high-intensity flashlight on the large pool. He immediately saw a big, half-meter-long fish breaking the surface for air.
"Don’t tell me you want to eat fish?"
Hearing this, the gorilla nodded its head frantically, then pointed at Fang Chenyi and then back at the pool.
Fang Chenyi understood instantly. ’The big fella wants me to catch a fish for it to eat...’
Speaking of food, his own stomach began to growl. After using Celestial Gods and then running through the mountains with this creature for nearly an hour, he was starving.
Not only that, but he’d been eating roasted camel for days on end, and he was getting sick of it.
The ocean was full of fish, but Fang Chenyi had no way of catching any.
’This pool isn’t small, but it’s a lot smaller than the ocean.’
At this thought, Fang Chenyi reached back and brought the rifle into his hands.
’Bullets lose their kinetic energy in water, but these big fish are all surfacing for air right now. This is a perfect opportunity.’
Seeing Fang Chenyi holding the "stick," the gorilla approached him curiously. Its large, bell-like eyes stared intently at the rifle as it wondered what its master was doing.
Just as its curiosity peaked, a loud BANG echoed through the clearing. The gorilla yelped in terror, immediately covering its head and dropping to the ground.
The gorilla’s shriek startled Fang Chenyi so badly he almost dropped his rifle.
He gave the gorilla an annoyed kick.
"Stop yelling, big fella! Go get the fish!"
The gorilla kept its head covered for another moment. When it didn’t hear another loud noise, it peeked timidly at Fang Chenyi through its fingers. Seeing that its master had lowered the thunder-stick, the creature finally climbed up from the ground.
It wasn’t until Fang Chenyi told it to get the fish again that the creature finally looked toward the water.
Upon looking, it immediately saw a large, headless, half-meter-long fish floating on the surface.
The creature instantly began to dance with excitement. But for all its excitement, it stood at the water’s edge and absolutely refused to go in.
Even after Fang Chenyi prompted it twice more, the creature wouldn’t budge.
Seeing the fear in its eyes, he knew. ’This big fella must not know how to swim.’
Fang Chenyi wanted to get in himself. After soaking in the seawater for so long, his skin was caked with salt. Now that there was fresh water, he naturally wanted to wash himself. ’But it’s the middle of the night... who knows what dangerous creatures might be in there.’
That’s why he’d wanted the big fella to retrieve the fish first. He’d figured he could observe the area tomorrow in the daylight, and then go for a swim himself.
But now it was clear the creature wasn’t going in. Left with no other choice, Fang Chenyi had to figure something out himself.
