Chapter 368: Chapter 368 - 344: Mysterious Creature (Part 2)
Just as Fang Chenyi felt so comfortable he couldn’t help but close his eyes to take a nap, the rain suddenly began to pour outside.
Scrambling to sit up, Fang Chenyi looked at the downpour outside the cave entrance and couldn’t help but grin. ’Damn it, let’s see you drench me now!!’
He had to admit, although the wind outside was strong, a protruding rock above the cave entrance did a great job of not only stopping the rain from getting in but also blocking most of the wind.
Of course, for safety’s sake, after the rain stopped, Fang Chenyi set up a few small contraptions outside the entrance. They weren’t large traps or anything—after all, this was a rocky mountain, and digging a pitfall trap was simply impossible.
What he made were just some small gadgets for early warning. If something approached, it would trigger a rope, which would then make a sound to let him know in advance and prepare.
That afternoon, apart from occasionally gazing at the distant sea, Fang Chenyi was busy with his traps. Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, it was night again.
He sat alone at the mouth of the cave, warming himself by the fire and eating camel meat, his ears occasionally picking up all sorts of strange and bizarre calls.
Fang Chenyi really couldn’t figure it out. ’Logically speaking, even if I flew some distance from the drop point, those guys should have been able to find me by now.’
’It’s been two days. They should have been able to swim here by now!’
He took a fierce bite of the camel meat in his hand, then turned and ducked back into the cave.
The bonfire was just outside the cave entrance. He didn’t dare bring it inside. If something went wrong and the oxygen in the cave burned up while he was sleeping, he’d be a goner.
Although he was relatively safer this time, Fang Chenyi still didn’t dare to sleep too soundly. He held his rifle, remaining in a state of half-sleep.
One day, two days, three days...
In the blink of an eye, another five days had passed.
That morning, he used all his strength to push aside a large rock at the cave entrance, then squeezed his way out.
By now, the cave mouth, which was originally about a meter wide, had changed. On the second day, Fang Chenyi had finally been forced to admit a possibility: the giant kite might have blown him very, very far away.
After three consecutive days without proper sleep, he was no longer paying much attention to the sea. He just wanted a good night’s rest.
So, the guy had hauled over a dozen large rocks from nearby and blocked up the cave entrance, leaving only a hole big enough for one person to crawl through. After he got inside, another large rock on the interior would seal the opening completely.
It was sealed shut, but he had still left a ventilation opening.
Of course, to help people find him, Fang Chenyi had also found some small trees and used an outfit worth over a hundred thousand to make a flag, which he planted high up outside the cave entrance.
And just like that, for the rest of the day, Fang Chenyi slept like a log.
He didn’t wake up until dusk, when he finally stretched.
As the days passed one by one, Fang Chenyi’s heart grew colder and colder.
Five days was enough to make Fang Chenyi start to feel a little desperate.
That night, Fang Chenyi had just squeezed into the cave and blocked the entrance.
Suddenly, a CLANG rang out from outside.
Hearing this sound, Fang Chenyi was instantly on full alert.
It was none other than the warning sound from one of the small contraptions he had set up outside.
He shifted the rock just enough to create a small crack and peered out, using the light from the still-glowing bonfire.
There, about ten meters from the cave entrance, a massive black figure was staring right at him!
The first moment he saw the figure, a single word flashed through Fang Chenyi’s mind: ’Wildman.’
That’s right. Aside from its massive size, the dark figure’s silhouette was practically identical to a human’s.
However, the dark figure showed no intention of approaching. From the looks of it, it seemed to be afraid of the bonfire.
Fang Chenyi tightened his grip on his rifle. He wasn’t particularly nervous; he was confident the weapon in his hands could easily take care of the creature.
Fang Chenyi stared at it, and it stared at the bonfire. Time ticked by, little by little.
After about half an hour, just as the bonfire was starting to die down, the black figure suddenly let out a series of roars, then turned and ran into the depths of the dense forest.
Seeing the creature actually leave, Fang Chenyi finally breathed a sigh of relief.
At the same time, a previous question he had was answered. The creature’s roars just now were identical to the sounds he’d been hearing before!
’I was worried there might be some kind of ferocious beast on this island, but it seems that’s not the case.’
He reached out, moved the rock aside again, and carefully slipped out. He went to the bonfire, ready to add more firewood to the dying flames. After all, that thing still seemed very afraid of the fire.
However, just as Fang Chenyi’s hand picked up some firewood to toss onto the fire, a roar suddenly erupted from behind him.
In an instant, Fang Chenyi felt his scalp go numb. He instinctively spun around, raising his rifle. Without a moment’s hesitation, he pulled the trigger.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
A series of gunshots rang out in the encroaching night, sounding incredibly harsh. Flocks of roosting seabirds instantly took flight with a flurry of wings.
But looking behind him, he couldn’t see the dark figure at all.
This left Fang Chenyi a bit puzzled. He held the rifle at the ready and began to search.
Finally, illuminated by the flashlight on his rifle, he saw a huge black figure in front of a patch of grass, crouched on the ground, holding its head and trembling uncontrollably.
In the beam of the flashlight, he could see that the figure was covered from head to toe in black fur. Not only that, but the hands covering its large, furry head were actually a pair of human-like palms.
They were just also covered in thick, black fur!
"A chimpanzee?"
In an instant, that was the name that appeared in Fang Chenyi’s mind.
That’s right, the creature was actually a giant chimpanzee!
Seemingly frightened by the flashlight’s beam, the chimpanzee began to whimper softly.
After waiting a moment and sensing no more danger, the creature timidly raised its head. Then, it slapped its large hands directly over its face, but the big eyes peeking out from between its fingers made it look utterly ridiculous.
Seeing this, Fang Chenyi couldn’t help but laugh. The creature’s expression was just too funny.
It peeked out from between its fingers, immediately saw the object shining a blinding light in the dark, and quickly covered its eyes again.
Originally, the creature had thought it was being clever, sneaking around behind to wait for the "little guy" to come out so it could get some of that fragrant, tasty food from him.
But it never expected the thing in the little guy’s hands to be so scary—oh no, so *chimp-scaring*.
Fang Chenyi held the rifle and gestured with it toward the big ape, then muttered aloud as if talking to himself:
"You’re a damn ape? What are you trying to do? Looking for trouble with me?"
Perhaps it was because he had been alone for so long that he had finally found someone to talk to. So, regardless of whether it could understand him, he started muttering to it.
Hearing Fang Chenyi speak, the great ape’s big ears twitched a few times, as if it was trying to hear what he was saying. But after listening for a moment, it realized it couldn’t understand the little guy at all.
The creature bared its teeth in a grin, but then it seemed to remember it was supposed to be scared, so it quickly hid its teeth again. Then, it perked up its ears, lowered its head, and stayed perfectly still.
Suddenly, as Fang Chenyi was muttering to the great ape, his eyes lit up, and a wicked grin spread across his lips.
’Heh heh, I was just getting bored of being alone, and you go and deliver yourself right to my doorstep!’
Thinking this, he locked onto the great ape in his mind and simultaneously issued the command: ’Illusion Technique: Celestial Gods.’
