Chapter 1526: Chapter 1526: Different and the same
After a long moment of silence, the elder finally said, "Alright, you pass."
Lin Fan couldn’t help letting out a secret sigh of relief.
Even though he had already guessed that this was the case based on the expression on the elder’s face, it wasn’t as if he could assume anything with these elders.
As he was prepared for the next test, the elder suddenly said, "Alright, you can inherit this place. You’ll be able to use it better than any of my disciples would have."
There was a part of Lin Fan that was surprised by this, but it wasn’t as if he was that surprised.
After all, he had already guessed that this would be the case when the elder asked him to paint what I wanted to paint. Testing him on the very basics like this was already his way of acknowledging Lin Fan.
It was also most likely where the elder had interfered by changing the test to be letting him draw what he wanted to draw.
Since the elder agreed to let him take over, it wasn’t as if Lin Fan was about to complain.
But he soon found that it wasn’t as simple as he thought it would be.
The token that the elder passed down to him was another ink brush, but this one seemed more suited to painting than to writing down words.
Once the elder passed this down to him, the elder suddenly gestured to Lin Fan to follow him.
Lin Fan was naturally confused as to what the elder wanted from him, but it wasn’t as if he could reject the elder that had passed on this inheritance to him. The only thing that he could do was follow the elder to a room that was filled with paper.
It was just that this paper wasn’t stored normally.
Instead of being stored in stacks like normal paper, the paper that was in this room was being hung from the walls as if they were being displayed. The thing was that there wasn’t anything on the papers to actually display.
Once they were here, the elder said, "Can you do a few paintings for me?"
An awkward look appeared on Lin Fan’s face, but considering that this was the final request from the elder...
In the end, he had no choice but to do the paintings that the elder asked for.
Each time, he would ask the elder what the elder wanted him to paint.
Each time, the elder would just give him a vague answer that required him to think on the spot to fulfill the elder’s request.
By the end of it, there was a part of Lin Fan that wouldn’t have minded strangling the elder with the way that he made all of these requests.
At this point, it was almost as if the elder was just harassing him.
However, Lin Fan chose to believe that the elder had his reason for doing this.
In the end, it turned out that there was indeed a reason for the elder to do all of this.
"Not bad, not bad. It seems like your skills aren’t bad at all, it seems like you’re suited for our special technique."
With that, the elder reached out towards one of the tables that was in this room and opened a secret compartment. Seeing this, Lin Fan couldn’t help thinking of the poetry pavilion where he had obtained the other secret technique.
It seemed like these cultural pavilions really shared the same way of storing these secret techniques.
Once the elder took out the secret technique, he didn’t hesitate at all to hand it over to Lin Fan.
But the moment that he did, his figure started to fade away.
It was as if he had been holding on for this last moment so that he could pass on this technique. In the end, Lin Fan wasn’t able to ask anything and the elder wasn’t able to pass on any advice.
At the very least, it seemed like the elder was satisfied when he passed on this technique.
It seemed like the elder was happy that he was finally able to find someone to pass this technique onto.
This elder seemed to take pride in his technique that he wanted to make sure that he found someone to pass this technique onto before fading away. Unlike the elder of the poetry pavilion that seemed focused on his own poetry.
It was pride, but it was a different kind of pride.
After receiving this technique, Lin Fan didn’t waste any time in looking it over to see what was so special about this technique.
As he read the technique, he could already see the guidance of the system activating.
This was a painting technique, so it qualified for the guidance of the system.
But as he was reading it, Lin Fan couldn’t help knitting his brows.
Then he suddenly pulled out the technique that he had received from the poetry pavilion and held them side by side. The way that he was looking at them was as if he was comparing the two of them.
Seeing this, Ye Qing Huan and Xiao Mu couldn’t help coming over to take a look.
Though he was the one that received the techniques, Lin Fan didn’t hide anything as he showed them both techniques.
After all, there were no secrets between them or at least when it came to these Dao Sect ruins. He had no reason to hide these techniques from them since they already agreed to share everything.
As they read the techniques, they had the same reaction as Lin Fan.
But their solution to this was different from his.
"Should you just choose one?" Ye Qing Huan asked when she read through both of the techniques.
Lin Fan didn’t say anything at first, but then he shook his head.
Ye Qing Huan revealed a concerned look seeing this and seeing this, Lin Fan said, "I have some ideas in my heart and I just want to give it a try. If it works, it works. If it doesn’t, then I’ll give it up."
Ye Qing Huan still looked a bit concerned when she heard this. However, she still gave a nod to show that she supported him in the end.
The reason that she acted this way was because she could see that while these techniques had some similarities, they were actually quite different. So if they were cultivated at the same time, then it might have a negative effect on the one that was doing it.
After all, both of these were able to bring one’s imagination to life.
It was just that they did it in different ways that didn’t really work with each other.
However, as Lin Fan was staring at both of them like this, he found that the system was actually guiding him on how to combine it. It wasn’t as if they had to clash with each other, it was that they just hadn’t been combined before.
As long as the different parts of the two techniques complimented each other, it wasn’t a problem to use them at the same time.
In fact, it would make both techniques much stronger if they were used together.
Lin Fan was impressed as he watched the guidance from the system.
It really drove into him that this was an otherworldly system with abilities that were beyond compare. After all, normal people definitely wouldn’t have been able to do something like this so easily.
It was only an immortal that would have been able to pick out all the good parts of these two cultivation techniques and combine them together into one.
After a while, the guidance system finished what it was doing.
Lin Fan didn’t write it down since it would have been hard to explain how he did this, but he did memorize everything that the system prepared for him.
With this, he took one of the paintings that he just made and used the technique on it.
The painting started to glow before it released an illusion around them.
However, Lin Fan didn’t stop at just releasing this illusion.
He put the painting ink brush away and took out the writing ink brush before he started writing in the air.
The golden words floated there for a bit before flying towards the illusion that had been created by the painting. When the golden words made contact with the illusion, they were actually absorbed by the illusion.
After absorbing these golden words, the illusion actually became even stronger.
With a smile, Lin Fan gave a satisfied nod.
It wasn’t as if what he just did was perfect, but it was certainly a good start.
What the system had done was combine the two into a technique where the paintings formed a base and he improved on that base by using the words from the poems.
This would make the overall product much stronger.
It seemed simple, but it was actually quite hard since the words had to perfectly match the painting. It wasn’t just about tone or subject, it was also a matter of controlling spiritual energy.
But with the guidance of the system, it was quite easy for Lin Fan to do all of this.
His system really was a product that was given to him by a god.
"Why not try breaking through this?" Lin Fan asked Ye Qing Huan and Xiao Mu this question.
When they heard this, they didn’t hesitate to rise to the challenge since this would help them as well.
