Chapter 1521: Chapter 1521: The guidance worked after all

He didn’t know why he felt this way, but there was this strange feeling that told him that none of these openings and endings worked for the poem.

It wasn’t even the system that was guiding him to this answer, it was a feeling that came from Lin Fan himself.

After looking through all of these pieces of paper, he finally said, "You weren’t able to figure out the opening or ending for this, right?"

The elder didn’t seem surprised to hear this as this was something that was quite obvious. Anyone that had any idea about poems would be able to see through this.

So the elder just gave a simple nod to confirm this. But after a moment of silence, the elder also added, "At first I thought I would be able to come up with the opening and ending quite easily with all the time that I had, but..."

There was a deep sigh that escaped the lips of the elder as he said, "The more that I thought about it, the more stuck I became. Then when I tried to stop thinking about it, I realized that I was just making it worse. The more and more that I tried to work it through, the more confused I became. It felt like falling further and further into a bottomless pit."

Lin Fan couldn’t help being a bit taken aback by the rant that came from the elder. At this moment, this elder just wasn’t acting the way that an elder should be acting.

In a way, it was almost as if the elder was treating Lin Fan as an equal rather than as a junior.

Though it did make sense to a certain extent considering that Lin Fan’s ability to analyze poetry was on a level that was similar to the elder’s. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to do all those things that he had just done.

Hearing what the elder had to say, Lin Fan was certain of one thing.

"It seems like this elder really is suffering from writer’s block."

Though he didn’t know exactly why the elder had this kind of writer’s block, he did have a good idea of what it could have been.

Whatever had happened to the Dao Sect in the past had most likely left a deep impression on the elder. Even if he acted like everything was fine, it was likely that this had left a lasting scar on the elder that made it hard for him to move forward.

Lin Fan thought about it, but he didn’t think that therapy was the right option here.

After all, it wasn’t as if the elder was even able to discuss what had happened in the past. There was something that prevented every elder of the Dao Sect from talking about the disaster of the Dao Sect, so it was unlikely that this elder would say anything.

So the only thing that he could do was finish the elder’s poem for him.

To do that, he would have to activate the guidance of the system.

Yet he had no idea how he was even supposed to do that.

Staring at the sheets of paper in front of him, there was a part of him that felt lost since he didn’t really know what he was supposed to do.

But thinking about it, Lin Fan suddenly had an idea.

"Let’s put them together."

There was no reaction if they were apart because the system didn’t actually recognize the different pieces of paper as poems. Perhaps it would only recognize them as poems if they were put together.

Only it didn’t seem to be the case when Lin Fan brought the different pieces of paper together. It just seemed like these things weren’t compatible at all with how there was no reaction that came from the system.

That was until all of a sudden, the system activated.

Lin Fan had been about to move this piece of paper away when he saw that there was a reaction that came from it.

Once he saw this reaction, he put the piece of paper back and waited for a response from the system.

While waiting, he could see that the words on the pages were being rearranged by the system. At the same time, there were even a few words that were being erased completely and replaced with another word.

This continued for a while until finally the words on the page stopped moving.

When those words stopped moving, it seemed like a complete poem had finally been formed.

Looking at it, Lin Fan could tell that this certainly was a poem that was much better than the one that he had seen previously. Even with his abilities, he was able to tell that this poem had a much better flow to it with how the words matched each other.

After making sure that everything was correct, Lin Fan just stared at the pieces of paper in front of him before reading what the system had prepared for him.

Hearing what he said, the elder’s expression slowly changed. At the same time, the elder floated over to look over Lin Fan’s shoulders, to look at the same pieces of paper that he was looking at.

But even looking at these pieces of paper, the elder couldn’t see what Lin Fan was seeing.

After all, it wasn’t as if the elder was able to see the guidance of the system and it wasn’t as if Lin Fan had written anything down.

Hearing Lin Fan recite this poem and seeing that there was nothing that was written down, the elder once again muttered to himself, "A true genius. He really is a genius."

As he said this, there was even a trace of bitterness that was in his voice.

The way that he looked at Lin Fan was as if he was thinking, "Why didn’t he appear sooner?"

The reason that the elder wanted Lin Fan to appear sooner was all because he wanted someone to share his poetry with. But it was already too late since the elder had long passed away and was only a fragment of a soul now.

The only thing that the elder could do was take comfort in the fact that Lin Fan had finished something for him that he had been wanting to finish for the longest time.

When Lin Fan said the final words, it seemed like the figure of the elder became a bit fainter. Even though he hadn’t passed on the inheritance yet, it was almost as if the elder was getting ready to move on.

Lin Fan couldn’t help revealing a wry smile seeing this, but he didn’t say anything that would disturb the elder.

It was only after a long moment of silence that the elder finally said, "Thank you for solving this deep seated regret of mine."

All of the emotions in the voice of the elder was enough to show just what the elder was feeling at this moment.

Lin Fan wasn’t surprised that the elder would be feeling this way since he could understand what kind of thoughts were on the elder’s mind at this moment.

With another sigh, the elder said, "I hope that this inheritance will be able to help you with your own poetry in the future. If it does, I hope that you will leave a note about me in your biography."

Lin Fan didn’t know what to say when the elder acted this way.

After all, it wasn’t as if he was actually going to use this poetry for anything since this poetry was something that the system had guided him on.

But when the elder put it like this, the only thing that Lin Fan could say was, "I’ll do what I can, but I don’t think I’ll leave my mark on this world."

The elder revealed a faint smile before saying, "I know you will."

Then before Lin Fan could say anything, he suddenly pointed at him and released words from his fingertip. These words gathered in Lin Fan’s hands until they took the form of an ink brush.

This ink brush was the token that would give Lin Fan control over this pavilion, which was why the elder was passing it onto him.

Without even looking at Lin Fan, the elder pointed at the pieces of paper in front of him and released words once more. When those words stuck to the paper, they seemed to form another poem.

Lin Fan recognized this poem right away since this was the poem that he had written with the help of the system. It was the poem that Lin Fan had finished for the elder.

But in the end, it didn’t seem like the elder signed it.

With the way that the elder looked at this poem, it didn’t seem like he felt that he was worthy of signing it since he wasn’t the one that had finished this poem.

Staring at the piece of paper for a while, he revealed one last bitter smile before disappearing.

Even though this was the last expression that the elder revealed before disappearing, Lin Fan knew that most of the regrets in the elder’s heart had been resolved by him. There was only a small matter that he really couldn’t help with, so that was why he didn’t say anything in the end.

When it was over, Lin Fan gripped the pen and started moving out of this room.

He was doing the same thing that the others did when they received their inheritances.
