Chapter 1520: Chapter 1520: What do you want from me?

← Ch. 1519 All Chapters Ch. 1521

To his surprise, Lin Fan found that there were a few mistakes in the poems on these pieces of paper in front of him. Or rather, the system found these mistakes and pointed them out for him.

However, Lin Fan didn’t know what to say when he saw these mistakes being pointed out.

There was a part of him that knew that the misunderstanding would just become worse if he were to point out these mistakes.

There was no doubt that the elder would be filled with even more enthusiasm towards his ’genius’ if he were to suddenly point these out.

But there was also a part of him that wanted to point it out.

"At this point, does it really matter if he misunderstands even more?"

That was the logic that Lin Fan was using to convince himself of this.

After all, it wasn’t as if this elder would remain in this world for much longer and it would certainly fulfill any regret that this elder had if he did this.

Though it would be a lie to say that he wasn’t motivated by possible gains to do this.

Lin Fan also wanted to do this because he wanted the elder to accept him even more and give him his full inheritance. That would increase his authorization level even more, which was why he was clearing out all of these pavilions in the first place.

So after a moment of internal struggle, that was why Lin Fan finally said, "There are a few mistakes on these."

The elder didn’t seem angry that he pointed this out, rather there was this amused voice that appeared on the elder’s face. With this amused look on his face, the elder came over and asked, "Where do you see these mistakes?"

Lin Fan couldn’t help giving a secret bitter laugh seeing this.

This elder really was completely obsessed with poetry and anything related to it.

It didn’t matter what it was, he would become this excited as long as it had something to do with poetry.

But since that was the case, he would use this to build up his own reputation with the elder.

After pointing them out, the elder suddenly burst out into laughter.

It didn’t seem like the elder was angry, rather it felt like the elder was sincerely amused by the things that Lin Fan had pointed out. Even though technically this was admitting that he was wrong.

Only when the elder spoke, Lin Fan couldn’t help being caught off guard by what he said.

"You actually found mistakes that even I didn’t find."

A wry smile appeared on Lin Fan’s face when he heard this, but he couldn’t help praising the system for this. After all, the system had found mistakes that even this elder of the once great Dao Sect hadn’t found.

There was no doubting the abilities of the system since Lin Fan already knew that the system was something amazing.

Only he didn’t expect the system to give him this kind of guidance as well...

After pointing out a few more of these mistakes that the elder made, the smile had disappeared from the elder’s face.

It wasn’t as if the elder was angry with him, it was more that the elder was now seriously looking at Lin Fan. The way that the elder looked at him was as if he was scrutinizing him.

It even seemed like there was something specific that the elder was hoping to see from Lin Fan.

Naturally he felt uncomfortable when the elder stared at him like this, but Lin Fan didn’t say anything at first as he waited for the elder to speak.

But in the end, he had no choice but to speak since the elder really didn’t seem like he was going to say anything.

"Is something wrong?"

The elder didn’t reply when Lin Fan asked this, he just continued staring at Lin Fan for another while longer.

Then all of a sudden, the elder gave a sigh before saying, "I already knew that you were a genius, but I never thought that you were a genius of this level. To think that you would be able to see through all of these flaws with just a single glance. And you even said that you had no idea what you’re doing."

Another bitter feeling filled Lin Fan when he heard this.

If he could, he really wanted to argue that it wasn’t him, but rather the system that was giving all of these answers. However, it wasn’t as if he could actually argue that, so he had to just accept the praise from the elder.

He also had to accept the strange looks that came from Ye Qing Huan and Xiao Mu.

At this point, they were treating him as some kind of alien with how much talent for poetry he demonstrated. They were looking at him like they were seeing him for the first time.

Though the elder was saying this with what seemed to be a melancholic tone, it also seemed like there was some hesitation that was in the elder’s voice. With the way that the elder continued to speak, it was almost as if he was waiting for someone to cut him off.

As if there was something that he wanted to say, but he was too embarrassed to say it without the other side bringing it up first.

Seeing this kind of tsundere reaction from the elder, Lin Fan really didn’t want to say anything. After all, seeing this kind of old man acting this way really wasn’t something that he wanted to see...

But in the end, he had no choice but to ask, "Is there something that you want to ask?"

When Lin Fan asked this, the elder kept acting hesitant even though his eyes showed that he already made up his mind. So it took a while before the elder finally said, "Actually, there’s something that I want to ask of you."

Lin Fan was surprised that the elder had something that he wanted to ask him, but it was already too late to back down. So with a nod, he said, "You can ask me anything you want."

The elder didn’t say anything as he suddenly turned around and went over to one of the drawers to pull something out.

Unlike the rest of the drawers that were filled with paper, this one actually didn’t have anything else in it. This one seemed like a special drawer that only had a few pieces of paper in it.

He chose one of them and handed it over to Lin Fan.

When Lin Fan saw what was written on this, he couldn’t help raising one brow doubtfully. But then his brows suddenly knit together as if there was some kind of problem.

It wasn’t what was written on the paper that caused this, it was more what was missing from these words that caused this reaction.

After all, it seemed like the system’s guidance wasn’t activating even though there was this poem in front of him. It seemed like there was something about this that wasn’t triggering the system.

"I was hoping that you could help me find what was missing." The elder was still hesitant when he said this, but it was clear what this poem meant to him.

This poem was most likely one that he had been working on when disaster struck the Dao Sect. But even after spending all of this time in soul form, it seemed like he hadn’t been able to finish it.

It shouldn’t be that he couldn’t write since he could control the ink brush with his spiritual sense.

Was it because he was only a fragment of a soul that he didn’t have the same creativity as before?

Was it because there was a fundamental part of his soul that was missing because he was in this state?

Regardless of what it was, the main thing was that the system’s guidance just wasn’t activating.

If it didn’t activate, then there was no way that Lin Fan would be able to fulfill the elder’s request.

Since it wasn’t activating, the only thing that he could do was look at the poem properly to see if he could find the reason that was causing the system not to activate.

Though he was reading the poem, it wasn’t as if Lin Fan was able to figure anything out.

The only thing that he felt was shock towards this poem since it stirred a strong reaction from him.

But other than that, he really couldn’t find anything else that he was supposed to see.

Taking a deep breath to calm himself down, Lin Fan focused on the piece of paper in front of him. He was determined to use everything that the system had shown him until now to try and figure out what was missing.

Then as he was reading it, it felt like something suddenly clicked into place.

He looked at the top of the page and then the bottom of the page.

After a long moment of contemplation, he finally asked, "Where is the beginning and the ending?"

A wry smile appeared on the face of the elder before he pointed at the other pieces of paper that were in the drawer.

Lin Fan came over to look at them and he saw that there were only a few short lines on these pieces of paper. They all seemed like they were beginnings and endings that would match this poem, but at the same time...

It felt like something was off about them.
