Chapter 168: Chapter 168: Empath Demon 2
Dr. Samuel turned his gaze toward the Empath Demon floating inside the glass tube before speaking thoughtfully.
"Now I’m curious. What would happen if she used her ability on you?"
He looked back at Asher with genuine interest in his eyes.
"Would you remain as calm as you are now... or would even your emotions be stirred?"
A trace of amusement appeared on his face as he added,"I have to admit... I’d really like to find out."
Asher looked at Dr. Samuel, a trace of wariness flashing through his otherwise calm eyes.
He could tell that Dr. Samuel wasn’t joking.
The man standing before him was fully capable of carrying out such an experiment simply to satisfy his curiosity.
Dr. Samuel noticed Asher’s wary expression and simply smiled before dropping the matter.
"As for how this is connected to the previous experiment, figure it out yourself."
He glanced at Asher.
"You are capable enough to do that."
Then his gaze shifted back toward the glass tube containing the Empath Demon.
"As for what we need to do with her, it’s simple."
His expression became serious.
"We need to control her first. After that, we will use her ability to modify the parasite so that it can also work on beings at the Master rank."
Dr. Samuel then continued,
"And that is exactly what we will use her Master-rank ability for."
He looked toward the Empath Demon inside the glass tube before explaining further.
"After reaching the Master rank, Empath Demons undergo a significant change in the way their abilities work. They are no longer limited to simply influencing the physical reactions of their targets."
"A lower-rank Empath Demon can only amplify emotions by affecting the body’s natural responses. For example, they can increase fear by triggering the body’s reaction to danger or intensify anger by influencing certain biological processes."
He paused briefly.
"But a Master-rank Empath Demon can directly interfere with the consciousness itself."
"They can inject a small amount of their will into the target’s consciousness, allowing their influence to bypass the physical body completely. Even if the target’s body is separated, protected, or unaffected, the ability can still influence their thoughts and emotions as long as their consciousness remains connected."
Dr. Samuel’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"This is why Master-rank Empath Demons are far more dangerous than ordinary ones. They are not simply controlling the body’s reactions... they are affecting the very source from which emotions and thoughts originate."
He tapped the glass tube lightly.
"The previous parasite could only connect to the nervous system. That limitation is the reason it cannot properly affect Master-rank beings, because their bodies are constantly undergoing reconstruction and can easily detect and remove foreign organisms."
"But if we can incorporate the ability of an Empath Demon into the parasite, then the connection will no longer be limited to the physical body."
A faint smile appeared on Dr. Samuel’s face.
"It will be able to directly connect with the consciousness of the host."
Dr. Samuel continued calmly,
"The only thing we need to do is make sure the parasite doesn’t inject that will all at once. It has to be done slowly, in a way that even the host’s consciousness won’t notice the change."
He looked at the parasite sample in his hand before continuing.
"If we directly introduce a foreign will into someone’s consciousness, anyone with enough awareness will immediately notice something is wrong. The consciousness naturally rejects anything that doesn’t belong to it."
"But if the parasite gradually introduces small traces of influence over time, the changes will become almost impossible to detect. The host will simply believe that the thoughts and emotions created by that influence are their own."
Dr. Samuel paused for a moment before adding,
"Of course, there are exceptions."
His expression became slightly more serious.
"Unless someone from the Velmora Family interferes."
He glanced toward Asher.
"They are one of the few groups that specialize in hunting demons like this. Their entire history is built around fighting creatures that attack the mind and consciousness. Their understanding of will, mental influence, and spiritual interference is far beyond ordinary cultivators."
"If someone from that family examined a target carefully, there is a high chance they would notice the parasite’s influence and remove it before it could fully integrate."
Dr. Samuel then shook his head slightly.
"But aside from them, there are very few people who can discover it."
"Of course, there are still individuals with exceptionally powerful wills or extremely strong consciousnesses. Someone like that might sense the foreign influence naturally, even without any special knowledge about mental abilities."
He shrugged.
"However, we don’t intend to use this on people like that. As long as we choose suitable targets, this limitation is irrelevant."
After saying that, Dr. Samuel turned his gaze back toward the Empath Demon inside the glass tube.
For the first time, a trace of seriousness appeared in his expression.
"The parasite itself isn’t the difficult part".
He looked at the sealed demon.
"The real problem is controlling her and then working on that parasite by her help "
Dr. Samuel then continued,
"But there is no need to worry about that. All the preparations required to control her have already been completed with the help of the higher-ups."
Asher looked at Dr. Samuel silently.
But inwardly, he couldn’t help but think,
’Then why the hell did you create so much suspense and act as if this was some impossible problem if it was already solved?’
Asher silently looked at Dr. Samuel and came to another conclusion.
This mad scientist didn’t just enjoy conducting experiments on living beings.
He also seemed to enjoy making jokes and watching people’s reactions during the process.
Dr. Samuel then turned his gaze toward Klein.
Klein immediately understood what he meant.
Without saying a word, he walked toward the control panel beside the glass tube and activated a mechanism.
The surrounding enchantments began to glow one after another, and the mana circuits connected to the tube started operating.
A moment later, the liquid inside the glass container began to move.
The female Empath Demon slowly opened her eyes.
Her previously calm expression changed slightly as she regained consciousness, and her gaze moved toward the three people standing outside the tube.
