Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Room 4
Four days later.
Inside the Church Facility, another parasite experiment was about to begin.
Over the past few days, the parasite had undergone several improvements. Dr. Samuel and his team had successfully reduced its size to an almost microscopic level. It had also become virtually undetectable, allowing it to be mixed into a drink without the victim noticing anything unusual. Once inside the body, the parasite would quietly attach itself to the victim’s nervous system without causing any visible reaction or discomfort.
Today was the final test.
If everything went according to plan, the modified parasite would finally be considered a success.
Inside the laboratory, Asher’s vessel stood beside Dr. Samuel, while Grandmaster Klein silently remained behind them as usual. In front of the three of them, two restrained test subjects lay unconscious on the metal tables.
Many had died during the development process.
Fortunately for them, their deaths had been relatively peaceful. Whenever the parasite malfunctioned, it simply caused their brains to cease functioning, ending their lives almost instantly without any prolonged suffering.
Dr. Samuel looked at the two unconscious subjects before giving a slight nod. He picked up two glasses of juice. One of them contained the modified parasite, yet there was no difference in color, smell, or taste. Without any hesitation, he poured the juice into the mouths of the two subjects.
The three of them quietly waited.
A minute passed.
Then another.
Nothing happened.
There were no spasms, no screams, and not even the slightest fluctuation in the subjects’ mana or vital signs. Their breathing remained steady, as if they had merely drunk an ordinary glass of juice.
Asher immediately examined their bodies with his mana scan. The parasite had already reached the nervous system and quietly attached itself to it. There was no rejection from the body, no inflammation, and not even the slightest abnormal reaction. It had integrated so naturally that, without knowing beforehand, even Asher would have found it difficult to locate.
Dr. Samuel observed the readings on the surrounding magic devices in silence. After checking every result several times, a faint smile finally appeared on his face.
"Perfect."
He calmly put down the report in his hand.
"No visible reaction. The parasite has successfully integrated into the nervous system, and the hosts remain completely unaware of its existence."
The parasite had become almost impossible to detect, perfectly achieving the first objective Dr. Samuel had been pursuing.
Dr. Samuel nodded in satisfaction before saying,
"Now we only need to create the leading parasite. Once it is connected to all the ordinary parasites, its host will be able to perceive the five senses of every victim carrying the normal parasite."
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"With that, the first phase of the project will be complete."
He then turned to look at Asher.
"We’ll begin the next phase tomorrow morning. You can return to your room and rest for now."
Asher didn’t hesitate. He gave a slight nod before quietly leaving the laboratory.
The heavy metal door closed behind him as he walked into the silent corridor.
Without wasting any time, Asher headed straight toward his assigned room.
His footsteps echoed faintly through the hallways as he calmly made his way back, his mind already occupied with everything he had witnessed during today’s experiment.
After returning to his room, Asher simply rested for the remainder of the day. When night arrived, he went to the cafeteria, had his dinner, and then returned to his room before going to sleep.
He didn’t bother thinking too much about the parasite experiment. There were still no new clues that hinted at its true purpose. As far as he could tell, the parasites remained mostly useless, even after all the improvements Dr. Samuel had made.
The next day.
After getting ready, Asher headed straight to Dr. Samuel’s laboratory.
Before long, Dr. Samuel, Klein, and Asher left the lab together.
However, they weren’t heading toward the room where they usually conducted their experiments.
Asher noticed the change immediately.
Although he was curious, he didn’t ask any questions, he simply followed behind them in silence.
After walking through several corridors, the three of them arrived at a heavily guarded section of the facility.
The rooms here were numbered from 1 to 8.
Standing at the entrance were two Grandmasters, silently guarding the passage.
Normally, Asher and other were not permitted to enter this area.
However, after seeing Dr. Samuel, the two Grandmasters stepped aside without saying a word, allowing the three of them to pass.
Asher quietly observed his surroundings as they walked deeper inside.
His curiosity couldn’t help but grow.
’What exactly is hidden here that requires two Grandmasters to guard it?’.
Asher quietly looked around as they walked deeper into the restricted section.
Every room here was different from the rest of the facility.
The walls were covered with layer upon layer of complex enchantments, while the heavy metal doors were engraved with countless sealing formations. Mana continuously flowed through the inscriptions, keeping every formation active at all times.
The entire place resembled a prison more than a research facility.
’There are demons inside these rooms.’
He was certain of it.
The only question was...
’What rank are they?,Master rank... or something even stronger?’
After walking for a while, the three of them finally came to a halt.
They had stopped in front of Room 4.
Without saying a word, Klein took out two artifacts shaped like a pair of black gloves.
He handed one to Dr. Samuel and the other to Asher.
Asher quietly accepted the artifact and examined it for a brief moment before putting it on.
Only after Asher had worn the gloves did Klein speak in a serious tone."Don’t remove them".
After giving the warning, Klein stepped forward.
He placed his hand on the heavy metal door.
One after another, the enchantments engraved across its surface began to light up. The sealing formations activated in sequence as Klein injected his mana into them, carefully releasing each lock one at a time.
The unlocking process lasted for several moments.
