Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Motive

Dr. Samuel picked up two crystal syringes filled with a faint silver liquid.

Inside the liquid, a tiny worm-like creature slowly wriggled.

He held one of the syringes up before calmly saying,

"The organism inside is a modified parasite."

He paused for a moment before continuing,

"Its origin comes from the parasitic demons."

"Those demons use these parasites to invade the bodies of other living beings, gradually taking control of their nervous system until the host loses all sense of self."

His gaze fell upon the unconscious men.

"By the end of the process, the host becomes nothing more than a hollow shell, completely controlled by the parasite."

There wasn’t the slightest change in Dr. Samuel’s expression as he spoke.

He simply continued in the same calm tone,

"Of course, we’ve made several modifications to it.The parasite no longer aims to seize control of the host.Instead, its purpose is to establish a connection between two nervous systems."

He looked at the two restrained men before adding,"If everything goes according to our calculations, both subjects should gradually begin sharing each other’s five senses."

He lightly rotated the syringe in his hand.

"At least... that’s the theory."

Dr. Samuel walked toward the first subject.

Without the slightest hesitation, he inserted the syringe into the man’s neck.

The silver liquid slowly disappeared into his body.

The tiny parasite entered along with it.

He then repeated the same process with the second subject.

After injecting both of them, he stepped back and calmly observed their bodies.

Nothing happened. The room remained completely silent.Only the steady breathing of the two unconscious men could be heard.

A few moments later, the bodies of both subjects suddenly trembled.Their fingers twitched slightly.

The veins on their necks gradually became more prominent, as though something was moving beneath their skin.

Asher quietly observed the scene without saying a word.

Dr. Samuel looked at the two men before speaking in a calm tone,

"The parasite is adapting to the host’s nervous system."

"If the host rejects it, the nervous system will collapse, and the subject will die within a few minutes."

He paused briefly before continuing,

"If the adaptation succeeds, the parasite will begin searching for the second host and establish a connection between their nervous systems."

Four hours later.

Asher finally returned to the room assigned to him.

The moment he entered, he closed the door behind him before falling onto the bed.

He looked at the ceiling, silently recalling everything that had happened during the experiment.

The experiment itself had been a success.

The modified parasite had successfully established a connection between the two subjects.

Both of them were able to perceive each other’s five senses.

From Dr. Samuel’s reaction, it was obvious that the experiment had achieved its intended result.

However, Asher wasn’t interested in the result.

He was interested in the purpose behind it.

Throughout the entire experiment, Dr. Samuel had explained the parasite’s mechanism and how it functioned.

Yet, from beginning to end, he had never mentioned why they were trying to create such a parasite.

Of course, Asher hadn’t asked.

Still, that didn’t stop him from thinking.

The first possibility he ruled out was body control.

The original parasites used by parasitic demons already possessed the ability to invade another living being and gradually seize control of their body until the host became nothing more than an empty shell.

If the Church wanted that ability, there was no reason to alter the parasite.

They could have simply researched the original one.

Instead, they had deliberately changed its function, sacrificing its ability to control the host in exchange for creating a connection between two nervous systems.

That alone meant their objective was something else.

Then Asher recalled Dr. Samuel’s expression after the experiment had succeeded.

He had been pleased.

But only for a moment.

Immediately afterward, he began pointing out the flaws that still remained, as though the successful synchronization itself wasn’t enough.

The first flaw he mentioned was the parasite’s adaptation process.

The moment it entered the host’s body, it produced an obvious reaction.

The subjects’ muscles twitched.Their veins bulged.

Even someone with no medical knowledge could tell that something abnormal had entered their bodies.

They didn’t just want the parasite to work.

They wanted it to enter a person’s body without causing any noticeable reaction.

A parasite that could infect its host silently.A parasite whose victim wouldn’t even realize they had been infected.

The second flaw Dr. Samuel mentioned was even more interesting.

He wanted to modify the parasite so that only one subject could perceive the other person’s five senses, while the other remained completely unaware that the connection even existed.

Asher quietly thought about that for a moment.

If only one side could receive the information while the other couldn’t even realize their senses were being shared, then the parasite would become far more useful.

Combining that with the first flaw, Asher could only arrive at one possible conclusion.

The Church wanted to create a parasite that could silently enter a person’s body without causing any noticeable reaction and then secretly share that person’s five senses with someone else.

Meanwhile, the person being observed would remain completely unaware that anything had happened.

In other words...

The parasite wasn’t meant for controlling people.

It was meant for keeping them under constant surveillance without them ever realizing they were being watched.

However, Asher soon frowned.

’But why go through so much effort just to keep watch on other people?’ he thought.

After all, this parasite had a major limitation.

It could only work on those below the Master rank.

The moment someone reached the Master rank, their body underwent a complete reconstruction.

Their control over mana increased dramatically, allowing them to freely transform their bodies into their elemental form and back again.

With such control over their own body, any foreign organism that entered them would be detected almost immediately.

Even if the parasite had been implanted before they reached the Master rank, the moment their body completed its reconstruction, they would sense its presence.
