Chapter 519: Chapter 519 – Nobody saw it coming
Chapter 519 – Nobody saw it coming
The instant Daisy confessed to enjoying draining Seraphine’s blood long after she no longer needed it, Voren stopped hearing everything else in the room. Nothing around him mattered anymore, not the crowd, not the accusations flying back and forth, not even Ravyn, who looked more than capable of dealing with Daisy himself. His entire focus narrowed to one person and one person only.
Seraphine.
With Ravyn standing between Daisy and everyone else, those surrounding Seraphine had unknowingly relaxed.
They loosened their stances, and cautiously returned to their seats, believing the worst was finally over and they could breathe again.
But they were wrong.
Inside Voren’s mind, Bloodfang released a low, furious growl that shook through every corner of their shared consciousness. ’I want her blood.’
Voren’s own eyes darkened until they looked almost black. ’That makes two of us.’
He had barely taken a single step toward Daisy when Bloodfang seized control without asking permission. There was no transformation, no fur, no monstrous form, only raw, blistering speed. Before Daisy could fully complete her shift, Voren’s body shot across the hall like a bolt of lightning. The guests barely caught a blur of movement.
He slammed into Daisy before she could reach Seraphine. The impact echoed throughout the banquet hall like a thunderclap.
Bloodfang’s claws burst from Voren’s fingertips, stretching into a deadly weapon as they drove straight between Daisy’s ribs with brutal precision. Her eyes flew open wide, a choked scream tore from her lips, wet and broken. Without giving her even a second to recover, Bloodfang shoved her away with terrifying force.
Daisy’s body hurtled through the air before smashing violently into the stone wall, at the same time Voren’s phone dropped from his breast pocket. The entire room trembled under the impact.
Chunks of plaster rained down onto the floor as she collapsed in a crumpled heap, coughing violently while blood poured from the deep wound in her chest.
Her incomplete transformation vanished almost immediately. Within seconds she was back in her human form, trembling hard as a growing pool of crimson spread beneath her.
Several guests instinctively stumbled backward. No one wanted to be anywhere near Voren, or the beast currently wearing his skin.
Ravyn picked up Voren’s phone to give him but his eyes darkened when he saw the image on the screen. "Sera?"
Then he remembered something and relaxed. "No, it must be Coco," he murmured under his breath.
"She needs a doctor." Damon’s eyes stayed fixed on Daisy even as the rest of the room recoiled. Regardless of everything she had done, the pup she carried remained important. That pregnancy was the only thing still keeping Ravyn emotionally tied to her.
If the baby survived while Daisy faced justice, Ravyn would carry the weight of having a pup from Fenrir wolf for the rest of his life, which means the past would always haunt him.
Before anyone else could react, Bloodfang answered through Voren in a deep, inhuman voice that sent chills racing through the hall. "Her Fenrir wolf will heal her."
Silence swallowed the room whole. Every face reflected the same stunned disbelief. Two impossible things had happened within moments of each other. The first was that Voren had surrendered control to his wolf without shifting.
The second was that Daisy possessed a Fenrir wolf. Nobody knew which revelation was more terrifying.
Whispers immediately spread through the crowd like wildfire. "A Fenrir wolf?"
"Does it even exist? Isn’t it a myth?"
"So that’s why she’s always been so vicious."
"No wonder she’s so evil..." Fear replaced curiosity in a heartbeat. Guests quietly moved farther away from Daisy, giving her a wide berth as though she carried a deadly plague.
She writhed against the floor, agony twisting every feature on her face. The claws had pierced deep, and even with her powerful healing ability, the pain remained unbearable. Her wolf struggled to repair the damage of one torn muscle at a time while she gasped for air.
Across the hall, Ravyn’s attention drifted away from Daisy. His eyes searched the room for only one person. Seraphine. He wanted to make sure she was unharmed. He needed to know she was safe. But the sight waiting for him shattered something deep inside his chest.
Voren had dropped onto one knee in front of Seraphine. His arms wrapped protectively around her waist as though he could shield both her and the life growing inside her from every danger in the world.
He buried his face against her lap, holding her so tightly it was obvious he was still shaken from how close it had been.
"Are you alright?" The worry in his voice was impossible to miss.
Seraphine still hadn’t fully recovered from the shock. Everything had happened too quickly. Daisy’s attack had been completely unexpected, and she hadn’t prepared for it at all.
’What just happened?’ Marsha asked in her mind, completely stunned by how fast the Fenrir wolf had been. They had forgotten the fact that a Fenrir wolf would only weaken with regret but Daisy had none.
Had Voren reacted even a heartbeat later, Seraphine didn’t dare imagine the outcome. She wasn’t afraid for herself. Her only fear had been the pup growing inside of her.
There wouldn’t have been enough time to shield them from the impact.
Feeling the lingering tremble in Seraphine’s body, Voren slowly lifted his head. The concern in his eyes only deepened when he saw how hard she was still shaking.
His heart tightened painfully in his chest. "It’s okay." His voice softened into a gentle whisper reserved only for her. "You’re safe."
One hand slid reassuringly along her back in slow, careful strokes. Without another thought he rose to his feet and carefully scooped Seraphine into his arms.
She instinctively curled closer to him, her hands tightening around his neck. "I’m getting you out of here." His jaw tightened with resolve. "It’s too dangerous."
Nothing else mattered anymore. He would handle every remaining problem himself. His only priority was protecting his wife.
The sudden movement left everyone staring. Voren carried Seraphine toward the grand entrance without sparing another glance behind him. Just as he reached the doors, he stopped.
Beyond the entrance the snowstorm still raged across the pack grounds. Snow whipped violently through the air while freezing winds howled across the mountains. Taking Seraphine outside in that weather simply wasn’t an option.
He slowly turned around and almost immediately found himself face-to-face with Ravyn. Voren’s phone was in his hand with the image of the screen saver facing Voren.
Seraphine remained safely nestled in Voren’s arms, her hands wrapped securely around his neck. She looked up at him, quiet gratitude filling her heart.
Athaliah looked equally stunned. Corvine blinked several times as though questioning his own eyesight. Even Kael forgot to breathe for a second.
Ravyn’s gaze remained locked on the intimate picture in front of him, and then the image of Coco in Voren’s shirt on the screen saver. Voren was not the kind of man to have two women but then, Coco was human and at this point, Ravyn could trust no one.
His chest tightened painfully. Then, unable to stop himself, the words burst free. "Voren... are you fucking her?"
