Chapter 800: Chapter 800 - 319: Dangling Toad_2
"Mr. Potter, is that right?" She stood up, her face stern as she asked Harry, "What were you just saying?"
"Sorry, Professor, didn’t you hear clearly?"
Harry reached up to scratch his ear. If Snape could see from outside, he would find that Harry’s expression and actions were exactly like his late father.
"Yes, indeed." Professor Umbridge chuckled.
"Oh, I was saying, Professor, how insightful." Harry gave a thumbs up. "In a year when we urgently need to learn all sorts of practical spells, you claim that we don’t need to learn defensive spells in class?"
"Are you a Ministry of Magic-trained education expert, Mr. Potter?" Professor Umbridge asked with a fake smile.
"Oh, of course not." Harry shrugged.
"Well, then I don’t think you are qualified to judge what the ’overall goals’ of any course should be. Our latest curriculum is designed by wizards much older and smarter than you. You will learn defensive spells in a safe, risk-free way—"
"Yeah, just like Harry said, right?" Ron suddenly interrupted her. "If we’re attacked, it won’t be risk-free! You should know, You-Know-Who is back!"
Professor Umbridge’s toad-like eyes were filled with fury.
"In my class, students must raise their hand before speaking. You are—"
"Weasley." Ron rolled his eyes, not even bothering to say his full name.
"Ah, Arthur Weasley’s son?" Professor Umbridge sneered while smiling at Ron in that particularly infuriating way. "Let me say it again, the matter about You-Know-Who is entirely Dumbledore’s fabrication! He aims to usurp the Minister of Magic’s authority by using you to create public opinion!"
"But You-Know-Who really is back." Hermione seemed to be suppressing her anger, glaring at Umbridge. "Even if he wasn’t, I think we shouldn’t waste our time on useless theoretical knowledge, but instead practice real Defense Against the Dark Arts!"
"Miss Granger!" Professor Umbridge said sternly, "In this classroom, I am the professor! I will not allow anyone to question my plans! Besides... I am an education expert. You young wizards know nothing about teaching! Do you think defensive spells are necessary in my class?"
"Why not?" Harry pulled out his magic wand.
"What do you mean?" Professor Umbridge suddenly had a bad feeling.
"Oh." Harry scratched the back of his head, "It’s just that everyone doesn’t believe the professor. You keep claiming we don’t need defensive spells in class... Could it be, the professor just doesn’t know how?"
"You simply have no need to use them in the classroom!" Professor Umbridge said with a cold expression, "Do you think you would be attacked in class?"
Harry didn’t reply to Professor Umbridge but turned to look at his classmates. "Guys, do you think Professor Umbridge is right?"
"Right!" Draco shouted insincerely, "We can’t possibly be attacked in class!"
"But the professor can’t be so sure!" Pansy Parkinson shouted as well.
"You..." Professor Umbridge was livid, stepping back a few paces, trembling as she reached for her wand in her pocket, the other hand shaking as she pointed at the students. "You want to attack the professor?"
"Oh dear," Harry said ominously, "We’re not attacking ’the professor’ today; we’re attacking you today—Expelliarmus!"
Professor Umbridge’s wand spiraled away from her hand.
"What... what are you doing!"
Professor Umbridge was truly panicking. If she had been a little composed before, now she was genuinely flustered.
"I warn you—this is a classroom, how dare you strike at a professor! Hurry up and get to class!"
"No, no no no, professor." Harry pushed away his desk and chairs, standing up, "Today, it’s not you teaching us, it’s us teaching you—showing you how a Hogwarts Defense Against the Dark Arts class should really be taught."
Professor Umbridge of course knew that Harry was a troublemaker. Even before she took office at Hogwarts, Fudge had specifically mentioned to keep a close watch on this so-called hero.
But she didn’t expect that on her very first class, Harry would act out.
"I am a professor of Hogwarts, Hog—"
Halfway through her sentence, Professor Umbridge quickly turned and ran.
However, when she reached the door, she heard Harry’s spell.
"Impedimenta!"
Thud!
Professor Umbridge fell flat on the floor.
"Alright, does anyone want to see what this pink toad looks like when it’s hung up?" Harry turned around, smiling as he asked the students.
As he said this, Harry felt as though he had heard something similar somewhere before.
Eh? So familiar, but he forgot.
"Hang her up! Hang her up!" Draco stood on the desk, enjoying the chaos. "Hang her up! Harry! How can such an incompetent Defense Against the Dark Arts professor teach us well?!"
"Levicorpus!"
Professor Umbridge struggled, really looking like a toad hung up, her arms flailing like a toad’s front legs.
Luckily, she was wearing pants today, so there wasn’t much risk of exposure—of course, everyone’s eyes wouldn’t be spared from that sight of this toad.
"Toad! Slimy!" Pansy clapped her hands, shouting, "Toad, really disgusting!"
Indeed, Slytherin students have a knack for insults.
One little rhyme after another.
"You... you let me down!" Umbridge continued to struggle, her legs kicking continuously.
"Longbottom!" Draco suddenly turned and shouted, "Hey, chubby, don’t you find that our Defense Against the Dark Arts professor looks familiar now?"
"Familiar?" Neville asked puzzledly.
"Doesn’t she look like your pet toad, Lafu?" Draco asked with a mischievous grin. "Look at how she kicks those legs, my gosh—why would you think of keeping a toad? Or do you actually quite like Professor Umbridge too?"
"You like Professor Umbridge!" Neville retorted without hesitation. "If you keep babbling, I’ll, I’ll fight you!"
At this moment, Annie also approached with some concern.
She tugged on Harry’s sleeve, softly asking, "Harry, is it not a bit too much to treat a professor like this at school?"
"Too much?" Harry glanced at the still struggling Umbridge, "I don’t think there’s anything wrong."
"Langlock!"
Hermione also drew her wand and cast a spell at the still screaming Umbridge.
The whole world went silent.
Not only Umbridge but the other students in the classroom quieted down as well.
They all looked at Hermione; no one expected this well-behaved girl to use a spell on a professor.
"What are you looking at?" Hermione asked Ron fiercely.
"Nothing, I just..." Ron thought of an adjective, "didn’t expect you to use that spell on a professor... good grief..."
"Harry already did it, as his friend, I couldn’t just stand by." Hermione said this, looking at Umbridge with some happiness in her eyes. "Besides, I’ve been wanting to use this spell for a long time!"
Far away in the Gryffindor House’s head office, Professor McGonagall suddenly sneezed as if she sensed something important was lost to her.
