Chapter 359: Chapter 359 - 337: Bailing Out
Fang Chenyi froze at his words. His gaze shifted to Qi Xiaotian, and he asked with a deep frown:
"You feel it too? Something’s off. I’ve felt uneasy ever since we boarded, and the feeling is only getting stronger."
The sensation was deeply unsettling for Fang Chenyi. It felt like a heavy stone was pressing on his chest, and an inexplicable tension was building within him.
Hearing Fang Chenyi’s words, Qi Xiaotian’s brow remained tightly knitted. After a moment, he spoke:
"Brother Fang, we need to find the nearest airport and land. I feel like something is about to happen, and it’s not good. The last time I had this feeling was on a mission. We were about to walk into an ambush. This same feeling put me on high alert, and I had the team halt. Right after, a dense hail of bullets rained down where we would have been. That was the time everyone on my team got wounded."
Having faced death countless times, Qi Xiaotian recognized it. It was the feeling of his life being threatened, an awareness of an unknown danger.
In the past, he had survived time and time again by trusting this very instinct.
As soon as Qi Xiaotian finished speaking, Fang Chenyi stood up and walked directly to the cockpit.
Pushing the door open, he saw Char casually sipping coffee while the plane flew on autopilot along its predetermined route.
Seeing Fang Chenyi enter, Char quickly put down his coffee and greeted him with a sheepish grin.
But Fang Chenyi paid him no mind. He walked straight past him, reached out, and pulled up the satellite map.
It had been thirty-three minutes since they left Dubai International Airport. Their current position was over the Indian Ocean. The nearest airport, Ladasiya Airport, was twenty minutes away.
After a quick look, and with the ominous feeling growing ever stronger, Fang Chenyi didn’t hesitate. He pointed a finger at Ladasiya Airport on the map and spoke directly to Char:
"Change course immediately. We’re landing here. Notify them that our plane has a malfunction."
Char was taken aback. He asked, confused:
"Uh, Boss, isn’t the plane functioning perfectly right now?"
Fang Chenyi glared at him.
"Are you in charge, or am I? Change the course, now!"
Char gave a helpless shrug, indicating he was just asking. He then began to alter the flight path while simultaneously switching on the radio to contact the control tower at Ladasiya Airport.
Once he saw that Char had changed the course, Fang Chenyi turned and left the cockpit.
Back in the cabin, he saw Qi Xiaotian scanning their surroundings. As for his sister, Fang Jinjin, she had gone to sleep in a small bedroom after boarding the plane.
Seeing Fang Chenyi emerge, Qi Xiaotian spoke first, his voice edged with anxiety, before Fang Chenyi could say a word.
"Brother Fang, my scalp is tingling now. We’re out of time. I feel like something bad is about to happen any second. What if... we bail out?"
The moment the words left his mouth, Qi Xiaotian himself felt uncertain. Although he trusted his intuition, it was, after all, just intuition.
Besides, they were over the vast ocean in the dead of night. Jumping out at a time like this was incredibly dangerous.
Hearing the suggestion to bail out, Fang Chenyi’s brow furrowed for a moment, but then he agreed without hesitation.
"Okay. Get the parachutes, life vests, and other gear ready immediately. I’ll go get Xiaojin."
With that, Fang Chenyi ran towards Fang Jinjin’s room.
This was the first time he’d ever felt such heart-pounding dread. He didn’t understand why it was happening, but he trusted Qi Xiaotian’s intuition more.
He moved swiftly, throwing open Xiaojin’s door. He woke the sleeping Xiaojin and hurriedly pulled her out of the room.
Seeing her brother’s frantic expression, Fang Jinjin’s mind was filled with confusion.
Her brother pulled her out into the main cabin. Seeing the floor covered with all sorts of survival gear, she groggily shook her head.
"Brother, what’s going on?"
Fang Chenyi had no time to explain. He just told her, "Have Xiaotian help you with your gear," and ran back to the cockpit.
Once inside, he saw Char still communicating with Ladasiya Airport and cut him off.
"Char, Smith, stop contacting them. We’re not going there anymore. Immediately descend to 2,000 meters and drop our speed to the minimum safe value! Set the cruise control to circle over this area of the sea."
This time, Char didn’t immediately follow the order. He just stared blankly at his boss, Fang Chenyi, completely baffled. ’What the hell has gotten into him?’ he thought. ’Drop to minimum speed, descend to two thousand meters... What is he trying to do?’
Seeing Char’s inaction, Fang Chenyi instantly grabbed him, hauled him out of his seat, and bellowed, "Get out and put on your gear, now!"
Then he began setting the plane’s flight parameters himself.
A sudden, rapid descent nearly sent Qi Xiaotian and Fang Jinjin tumbling inside the cabin. Fortunately, they managed to grab onto seats just in time to steady themselves.
Meanwhile, Qi Xiaotian was helping Fang Jinjin into various pieces of survival equipment and a survival pack. He did not, however, strap a parachute onto her.
This was mainly because Fang Jinjin had zero skydiving experience. Even with a parachute, she would be facing an extremely dangerous situation. It was highly likely that fear and panic would make her forget to open it.
Of course, this didn’t mean he was abandoning Fang Jinjin. Instead, Qi Xiaotian planned to use a large tandem parachute to jump with her. He was confident that his extensive skydiving experience would be more than enough to ensure her safety.
Not only that, but this approach would also simplify the rescue effort after the jump.
After all, their landing spots would inevitably be different. Trying to rendezvous in the vast, dark ocean at night would be incredibly difficult.
Qi Xiaotian worked with impressive speed. After gearing up Fang Jinjin, he quickly began to put on his own essential equipment.
By the time Fang Chenyi came out of the cockpit, both Fang Jinjin and Qi Xiaotian were fully geared up.
As for Char and Smith, they were cursing under their breath as they hurriedly put on their parachutes and other gear.
While Fang Chenyi was controlling the plane, Qi Xiaotian had quickly informed them about the plan to bail out.
Although neither Char nor Smith wanted to jump out of a plane at this godforsaken hour, it was the boss’s decision, and they had no choice.
"Brother Fang, hurry! Let me help you with your gear!"
As he ran over to put on his parachute, Fang Chenyi asked:
"Have you contacted rescue?"
Qi Xiaotian’s hands didn’t stop moving as he replied:
"Already contacted them. Sent them our coordinates, too. They should be on their way here now."
