Chapter 424: Chapter 424: She is his Wife
Bang!
The door was kicked open by Old Madam Han. Usually, she did not interfere when there was a fight between the husband and the wife, but this time Chen Hui went too far!
"Alright, so this is what is going on behind my back. Chen Hui, if you have so many complaints, then why don’t you go to your Chen family and complain? I also want to see if they have the face to come and fight for you. I have never done anything wrong to you or your family; if anything, this old woman has done her best to help your family when the situation was not good. Go and file a complaint! I also want to ask your mother how she has taught her daughter. A daughter married is like water spilled out of the house, and yet the daughter she has given birth to is like a rat!"
"Every time there is something to eat in my house, there will be a mouse sneaking around!"
Old Madam Han was fuming mad. In her entire life, she had never been wronged like this before. A few years ago, the situation around the country was not good. There was a great drought for two years, which caused many of the farmers to suffer. Back then, the Chen family came to her family many times and begged for food. When had she not given them a bag of coarse grain or rice?
Now they dare to show their might in front of this old lady? How could Old Madam Han swallow this breath? She immediately ordered Chen Hui to bring the Chen family to confront her.
"No, Mom. That’s not what I meant." Chen Hui never thought that her luck would be so bad that she would be caught not once but twice by her mother-in-law. She immediately refused to admit that she wanted to cause trouble because she knew that she was in the wrong. If she called her family, then the ones who would be losing face would be her family members. After all, they owed a lot to Old Madam Han.
Old Madam Han scoffed. She turned to look at her son and questioned, "And you? Do you have something to say to me as well? Do you think that I am treating your wife unjustly?"
"Not at all, mother." Second Uncle Han immediately shook his head. Even if he was a good husband, he was not blind to the flaws of his wife. He would never stand up for his wife foolishly when he was aware of the fact that she was the one in the wrong.
Only then did the harsh lines on Old Madam Han’s face soften a little, but she still did not look good. She glanced at her second daughter-in-law, who was standing in the corner like a frightened quail, and rolled her eyes. "Go outside; Ruochen is waiting for you. Someone especially arranged this for you, so don’t let their hard work go down the drain."
As she spoke, Old Madam Han glared at Chen Hui, who lowered her head even further. She felt scared because her mother-in-law was losing her temper with her, but Chen Hui did not feel that what she did was wrong. Since Han Ruochen had taken responsibility, she should do her best to fulfil it. If anything, she felt unfair and upset over the fact that Han Ruochen only came over when she made a fuss. If Han Ruochen had come looking for her husband before, then would she have said anything?
Ultimately, it was her fault that Han Ruochen was being careless, and she was the one who was getting blamed.
When Second Uncle Han heard that Han Ruochen was waiting for him, he felt embarrassed. His pride as a man was also hit. He raised his head and glared at his wife. This woman was truly good; she had embarrassed him in front of his niece. He, as a grown-up man, was now relying on his niece to take him along the shore and earn money. If anyone heard this, they would laugh at his face.
However, he knew that this was not the time for him to lose his temper. He nodded to his mother and then ran out of the house. When he walked into the garden, he heard the good words that his wife had taught his daughter, and his face turned even uglier.
"Xiuxiu! Who taught you such things? Your cousin is the one who is the benefactor of our family; if not for her, then we would never be able to eat meat and white rice every day. Don’t listen to the stupid things that your mother and uncles teach you. They don’t know anything." Han Cheng snapped at his daughter angrily. It was bad enough that Chen Hui was acting like a demon, but now she was even teaching their daughter all kinds of stupid things.
What did she mean by telling Han Xiu that Han Ruochen and her family were going to suck their blood like leeches?
Han Xiu shrank her neck when she heard the angry voice of her father. "Dad, it was Mom who told me this...I did not mean anything."
"Uncle, there is no need to lose your temper with Xiuxiu." When Han Ruochen saw that her uncle was losing his temper with Han Xiu, she immediately stepped in. After all, Han Xiu was just a little girl; what did she even know? If she was not taught properly, then it was the fault of her elders. Who could be blamed for it?
Han Cheng snorted, but he did not scold Han Xiu anymore. Instead, he turned his attention to Han Ruochen and said to her, "Ruochen, why did you come looking for me? Don’t take your aunt’s words to heart. She is a woman with long hair but short knowledge. What does she even know? Just a few words from her brothers, and she would rush to cause trouble. Don’t worry. What is the situation right now? Your uncle knows it better than your aunt."
