Han Ziyan was angry, but she dared not lose her temper in front of Han Yichen. She had no idea what was going on with her father, but these days her adoptive father had become more and more short-tempered with her. She pursed her lips angrily. She did not even want to talk to Han Ruochen, but when her stomach started to rumble, Han Ziyan couldn’t help but blush. "How do...how can I cook this?" She had never cooked shredded chicken porridge in her life; how was she going to cook it at home without Han Ruochen helping her?

And why didn’t Han Ruochen leave some for her? This won’t do. She had to talk with her mother today and tell her that Han Ruochen was bullying her too much. She was also working hard every night by taking care of Han Yichen in the hospital; why couldn’t Han Ruochen cook for her?

Han Yichen pretended not to see the friction between the two sisters and wiped his mouth with a wet towel that Han Ruochen handed him. "Ziyan, you can go home and take some rest. Ruochen will stay with me today, and you can come over and take over at night."

"It’s me again tonight!?" Han Ziyan stood up from the chair on which she was sitting. She stomped her feet and whined, "Dad, I have looked after you for two nights in a row. Why don’t you ask Brother Yong or Sister Xuehan to take care of you tonight?"

For Han Ziyan, who had never missed a good night’s sleep, staying awake for two nights was an extremely painful affair. What was more, she could not go back home and rest! She had to go back to work today; if not, she would be scolded by the warehouse manager. She had not been sleeping well these days, and the manager was already dissatisfied with her. Even if she had many supporters, if Han Ziyan kept making mistakes, she knew that even they would not be able to protect her.

She couldn’t help but say, "Dad, I am not saying that you are biased, but I have a job, but my elder brother and sister don’t have one. Why don’t you ask them to take care of you?"

Han Yichen raised his gaze and looked at Han Ziyan before slowly saying, "You mean to say I am biased just because I asked you to look after me for a few nights? Ziyan, search your conscience and ask yourself if I am really biased. You have a job — but we all know that your job was bought by my hard-earned money, while my biological children don’t have one. What’s wrong with you taking care of me a little? Your elder siblings need to look for work because I spent all my savings on you. How can I have the face to ask them to look after me?"

"I have never done anything for them! But you—I have never let you down."

Han Yichen was not alone in the ward when Han Ziyan complained; many of the wardmates thought that Han Yichen was being too biased. After all, they all knew that Han Ziyan was his adopted daughter. Thus, after listening to Han Ziyan’s complaints, they all had the same idea. She was being bullied. But before they could even jump to give her justice, Han Yichen spoke up, and all of them were stunned.

The adopted daughter used the savings of her adopted father and even bought a job while the biological ones were still looking for one? All of a sudden, they all turned to look at Han Ziyan and realised that they were being led around by their noses.

This—now they had no idea what to say.

Clearly, the adopted daughter was living a good life, and it was all thanks to her adoptive father, but she still did not want to take care of him when he was injured? Wasn’t it too unfilial? So what if she had to work a little bit harder? The rest of the family was also suffering because of her, were they not?

Han Ziyan blushed red in shame when she saw that everyone was looking at her. "Dad, that wasn’t what I meant...I am just tired."

Han Ziyan was a little scared of Han Yichen now. She could not help but shed tears inwardly. Was this the love and care that her mother was talking about? If this was the love that she was talking about, then she might as well leave this love in the hands of her elder siblings. It was too harsh! She was not used to such tough love!

"Then do you mean to say that you are unwilling?" Han Yichen pressed on. "If you are not willing, then I can only ask your elder siblings to take on the task. What can we do? Even if the family is in trouble...we cannot force someone."

"No...no. I am willing." Han Ziyan felt bitter, and she looked like she was about to cry any second now. How dare she say that she was unwilling? Her father had clearly stated in front of everyone that she had taken the opportunity that belonged to his sons and daughters, and yet she was not willing to take care of him. If she refused, then with what face would she even come to this ward again?

Since when did her father become so unreasonable? She was clearly tired and did not sleep a wink, but her father had not an ounce of sympathy for her.

"It is good that you are willing. Go back home and take some rest; there are still two hours before your work starts. Come again tonight." Han Yichen nodded and dismissed Han Ziyan.

"..."

Han Ziyan was speechless, but she still held on. She took a deep breath and opened her mouth. "Dad, Sister just said that there were no leftovers. What am I going to eat once I go back home?"
