Chapter 318: Chapter 318: Parting Ways! Demon Web!
Chapter 318
Chapter 318
"Well, I wish you luck." He nodded and left. While treating them, he came to know a little bit about them, they were from a small clan called "Golden Feather Clan" and were sent here for an infiltration mission but encountered strong enemies and were captured and sold as slaves.
He geniunely wanted them to escape so he wished them luck and decided to part ways
He had already helped them enough. Interfering any further would jeopardize both his and Agnes’ safety. He valued humans more than demons, but he was not a saint either.
His survival took priority over all else. He knew that sticking to a group was not ideal in this situation.

He returned to the small inconspicuous inn they had been staying at. The owner of the inn was an old demon who didn’t ask too many questions and simply rented out the room.
The inn was located in the southern region of the city. The demon household he had targeted was from the west, and he had made sure to be as far away as possible.
Upon entering the room, he saw Agnes sitting in a meditative pose, trying to regulate the espera in her body to prepare a channel foundation for the future.
She had been devoted to learning about espera and exorcists ever since Oliver taught her the basic meditation techniques to build her foundation.
He wanted her to build a strong foundation for the future so that once she actually started on the path of an exorcist, she could progress faster and be much stronger than her peers.
Given her special talent for absorption, he felt that she could even meditate in this espera-lacking environment.
Her affinity with espera was quite terrifying in his opinion, and that was after he had lived with geniuses his entire life.
She could easily break through and become an official exorcist. At that time, he would have less burden on him too.
He didn’t disturb her and sat on the other side of the room, taking out the gains from his loot.
’This could sell for quite a lot.’
He remembered that paying the rent for this inn had been quite difficult for him, as he had no currency from the demon lands. He could not directly offer to trade in gold either; that would have been extremely suspicious.
To avoid standing out, he had to pickpocket on the streets for some coins.
He was not a professional pickpocket either, but he had to do it discreetly, or the guards would notice him.
A bar was his target. In a state of drunkenness, the guard of the people around was usually lower than normal, making the process easier for him.
He would pretend to sit close to such "targets," and when the moment was right, do the deed.
The risk of discovery was quite low for someone like him. He had Abyss energy, after all.
If he wanted, he could become the greatest pickpocket of all time.
That was how he managed to earn the rent too.
’Now I just need a channel to sell this stuff.’
He nodded silently and took out his biggest gain.
The communication watch that demons used—it was the main objective of his intrusion. All the activities that had transpired were just side effects of this.
’The overall structure does look the same. It should not be much different to use than the ones back at home.’
He fiddled with the watch for some time but could not seem to operate it at all.
He frowned slightly. ’This looks more troublesome than expected.’
’Hmm, wait...’
He wondered about something, and the next moment, a dark current of energy swiftly entered the watch.
In the very next moment, the watch started to operate as it should.
His expression brightened in understanding. These watches required dark espera to be used.
It made sense. They were designed in such a way that even if one such device fell into the hands of an exorcist, they would not be able to use it, thus making it very secure and private.
There were no exorcists who could use dark espera as well as pure espera. Clearly, they never considered an anomaly like Oliver existing.
He quickly entered the network, and from the looks of it, there was already a pre-established alias from the old owner of the device.
He tried to change the alias; however, the cost required was too much. It was the same system as the one used in the human territories.
The importance placed on a name was quite heavy.
’I guess I have no other choice...’
He sighed and started browsing through various pages.
’Wow... if I had this from the beginning, I could have made our lives much less difficult.’
He found maps of various territories, different locations, and borders—all available on the network.
The price varied for each map, but they were all quite expensive.
Moreover, unlike the currency of the human lands, which was Neden, the demon lands used a different currency called Lento. The overall disparity was more or less similar.
Gold could be exchanged for Lento, however, the demon web also accepted trade in credits, with an exchange ratio of 1:100 to gold.
Simply put, Lento was also acceptable, but for the sake of simplicity, people used credits. Otherwise, there were options that automatically handled the conversion for customers and sellers.
The balance in the watch was not bad. There were some credits stored in the account, likely purchased by the previous owner.
Oliver didn’t hesitate to purchase a comprehensive map of the city and the nearby terrains.
He needed them to properly make his plans in case things went south in the future.
The maps were directly sent to his inbox as files to be downloaded.
It was all extremely efficient.
But what he truly wanted was a comprehensive map of the demon–human borders and a larger map covering more areas.
He wanted to get out of here, and those maps could help him the most.
If he did everything correctly, he might be able to return quicker than expected. With the map and additional resources, there were unlimited possibilities.
He had to use them carefully.
But, the price of the map still stung him a bit, it was quite expensive.
